Airmodel VFW-Fokker VFW-614 - (Fokker 614) - Bagged, 1/72, 351

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

$54

Still factory sealed and rare. This is still the only 1/72 scale kit ever made of this Fokker Turbofan Mini-Transport Airliner. Features fine recessed panel lines, all main airframe parts, engines and wheels. Includes a clear canopy in mint condition and not yellowed. The VFW-Fokker 614 (also VFW 614) was a twin-engined jetliner designed and constructed by joint Dutch and West German aviation company VFW-Fokker. It is the first jet-powered passenger liner to be developed and produced in West Germany (the East German Baade 152 being the first German jet airliner), as well as the first German-built civil aircraft to have been manufactured in a decade. VDW-614s were operated by Cimber Air (Denmark), Touraine Air Transport and Air Alsace (the later two in France). The West German Air Force operated 3 aircraft. It proved to be a good aircraft, but there was a great deal of marketing confusion between the Dutch and German sides which greatly hurt the project. This major and other minor problem lead to poor sales and by 1977 the aircraft was discontinued. One still survives in a German Museum.

Airedale Castings Japanese Type 2 Motor Launch Ka-mi, 1/35, 35024

$110

Very, very rare; only 50 were made and this is number 21. Very highly detailed model in high definition resin that includes full flotation gear. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. The Special Type 2 Launch Ka-Mi (Toku-ni-shiki uchibitei kami) was the first amphibious tank of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) in WWII. However, too few were produced too late for it to have an impact. The Ka-Mi was designed, initially, to assault islands. However, by the time it entered service, the Japanese forces were already on the defensive. They were used for infantry support, sometimes as moving pillboxes. Three formed the 1st Yokosuka Special Naval Landing Force based at Saipan, while two saw action in Leyte in 1944. They were affected to various naval garrison detachments in the Southern Pacific and East Indies. The USMC encountered the Ka-Mi when assaulting the Marianna and Marshall islands, at Guam, Aitape and Biak in New Guinea, and during the invasion of Leyte. Some sources claim that, off the coast of Leyte, USMC LVTs attacked and destroyed some Ka-Mis. Two survived to this day at the Kubinka Museum and on Palau island.
