This famous German Flying Boat was built in 1929. Dornier dreamed that this huge aircraft would become a trans-oceanic airliner with passengers traveling in ocean liner-like luxury. A tour of South and North American was conducted, but orders never materialized due to excessive fuel consumption and a lack of power. Total load was 170 passengers and crew, and the 12 engines developed 7200 HP. This is a very nicely detailed model with 121 pieces. Never started. This kit is from all new molds and includes a still factory sealed LED Lighting Kit designed for this model. There is no name on it but it may be Galactic Modeler who made kits for the entire Revell Star Trek series. The actual kit is from 2011, all new tooling and measure 37.8 cm long when assembled. It is well detailed with 73 pieces, separate bridge, Bussard collector and impulse reactor chamber, two part torpedo tube, separate wing outriggers and navigation lights & warp drive emitter and more. Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. They made a total of 5 molds for plastic injected aircraft kits, the 1956 Sea Dart being the first. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. One kit is this excellent X-1B. It is the rarer of the two releases as it contains the pilots bust molded into the fuselage (the other one does not). Includes full instructions with three photos of the real aircraft, full color decals, Strombecker kit catalog and an application for the Strombecker Model-Makers Club. Kit features full landing gear, clear canopy and display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
