Rare 1975 Japan issue with unique and beautiful box artwork. As with most Japan issues, this one contains extra features not available in other issues. First, there are decals for a total of two aircraft. Second, the huge 16.5" x 11.5" instruction front page is a full-color, glossy painting guide for the model and also has a large color photo of the assembled kit. Large-scale and well detailed (for that time) model of the British night fighter with airborne interception radar. The Beaufighter was flown by aces such like Flt./Lt. "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham, whose markings are included. His final score stood at 20 victories and his aircraft is one that can be depicted in this model. Features detailed Bristol Hercules engines, removable cowling, two flight crew, optional position landing gear, full crew cockpits and radar antenna. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. My friend and model builder Stephen Payne high recommends that the purchaser of any Beaufighter Night Fighter model invests in a copy of the book "Night Fighter" by C.F. Rawnsley. Rawnsley was John Cunningham's Airborne Intercept radar operator throughout WWII in both Beaufighters and Mosquitoes. The book is the story of their time and combat together and makes excellent reading.

1956 first and only issue in very good condition. The box has excellent color and gloss, four solid corners with no repairs, no rips, no tears and no fading. It shows the typical stains from the factory 'gift set' ribbons that Revell shipped these kits with. Never started. All three aircraft are still in the original factory sealed clear plastic bags. All paper work and the famous Revell Swivel Stands are in the factory sealed bags as well. The correct center factory divider is still present in the tray (box bottom) and there is a small, unopened, factory wrapped tube of Revell "S" Cement included.

Rare 1956 Revell Gift set containing all three ships and even the unopened tube of colorful Revell "S" cement. This was the first and only issue of this specific gift set and features spectacular special box artwork. The tugboat is 1/108 scale and the tanker and cargo ship are both 1/400. Inside, the kit is 100% correct. The special color cardboard over lay is factory fresh. The tug and C-3 lower hulls are factory painted red (the T-2 was molded in red so it was not painted). Decals are included. The instruction sheets are excellent with the typical yellowing as the only flaw. The three kits have not been started. The tug and freighter still have the small parts in the factory sealed clear bags; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. The tanker has been inventoried 100% complete. All three kits include decals and instructions. The box has brilliant color and gloss, four solid corners and no repairs. There is no tape, tape marks, price tags or price tag marks. However, there is moderate and light general wear and 'dings' on the two lower corners as shown. Shipping insurance is required with this kit.

Rare 1954 Pre-S issue. Very nicely detailed kit of the classic 'Wild West' Chuck Wagon (aka the first food truck). 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit - without figures and horses, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. 1954 advertisements from Revell list the complete line as the H506 State Coach of England, H510 Ranch Wagon, H503 Covered Wagon, H502 Marquis de Lafayette Carriage, H504 Roman Racing Chariot, H501 Wells Fargo Stage Coach, H509 Western Figures and H507 Chuck Wagon.

1954 original issue of the famous Highway Pioneers 'Foreign Car' series. These issues feature the same 5 car artwork on every box; the only way to identify the contents was an ink-stamped name on the box ends. Molded in gloss dark green plastic. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions present. These kits have a fascinating history. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream and never made the top 10 list of boys activities. Spurred on by the nation-wide aviation craze in the 1920s, many became modelers and built flying or static wooden models of airplanes, ships, trains, automotive and other subjects. Basic kits existed, but many of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s when the Gowland & Gowland/Revell Highway Pioneers became the sales sensation of the year. Demand was so great that the factories could not keep up and almost overnight 'model building' was mainstream. The phenomenon of the 'Highway Pioneers' kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles fit the bill: they could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real cars. The success of the Highway Pioneers lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the late 1950s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys...and many adult males too!

This is a Revell-factory built display made for hobby shop promotional use around 1954. The intention was simple- if hobby shops would purchase and display these attractively built displays, potential buyers would see them and immediately purchase the kit. This probably worked well; but the hitch was that these displays were expensive for the 1950s, so few hobby shops could afford them. And once in public, there was heavy attrition; parts easily broke, and when the new kits came out next year, they were thrown away to make room for more. Which makes condition of this one even more exceptional. The actual model is very neatly built and Revell factory airbrushed. You can always tell the Revell-built models by the airbrushing and the way the parts were masked. It is 100% complete and has no breaks and no repairs. Even the base is in very good condition. However, 1/2 of the paper nameplate is missing as well as the clear cover. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s.
