Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Good+
$24
Rare 1945 issue. Features detailed three view plans with cutting patterns and sanding templates as well as painting color tips, two sheets of printwood and wood stock. Never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, plans and also basic instructions on the back of the box. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type models with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers, such as Comet issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits.

1940 pre-war kit from AMCO, which was a division of Comet. A rare kit for the advanced collector or builder. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48 in the 1930s. Hawk kits were considered high quality and very complete for the time. This model dates from 1946 but still has the green style wartime box. It features a profile (2D) carved wooden fuselage, wings, rudder and elevator, wooden stock as required for struts, etc., fully formed wheels, metal propeller, sandpaper, a sheet with wing registration numbers and quality, full-size plans with wing and fuselage templates. The model has not been started and is complete.

SALE!! Includes two never started and complete kits in one box. Rare model from 1940 for the advanced collector. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48. However, the company was innovative as it quickly included injection molded accessories. This model features 3D cut fuselage, profile (2D) cut wings and tail feathers, turned & fully finished wooden wheels and spinner, stamped four blade propeller, insignia sheet and excellent plans with template views. Never started and complete with all parts for two kits, two sets of plans and two insignia sheets. Please note that this kit is simply called the "Heinkel Fighter." From what what can tell, this is a He-112B, with the three-piece bubble canopy and probably the V-10 with the big undernose radiator scoop.

This is a Kyosho kit made and packed in Japan in the 1960s but marketed by Kayeff Inc in California. I estimate the wingspan to be about 36 inches. This is a beautiful classic kit with a high degree of prefabrication for it's day. The kit features completely precut ribs, wheel pants, firewall, elevator, rudder and many other balsa parts (thin and very thick), die-cut plywood fuselage bulkheads, formed wire main and nose landing gear, balloon tires, metal push rods (for control line linkage), a metal hardware pack that is still sealed, numerous other wood and metal parts as needed, window material, tissue covering and more. This kit has not been started. The parts are complete, with the factory sealed ones still bag sealed and many parts still wrapped with the factory Kyosho tape. NOTE: I have lost the plans to this kit. You will need to find a set of Kyosho plans to build this model.

Beautiful kit from the 1950s made of quality hardwood - no balsa. The carving is done to the final shape. When complete it makes an impressive model and comes with a unique display stand. Features all carved and smooth wood parts, clear plastic canopy, full color decals, glue, wood filler, sandpaper and special display stand. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts and plans. Before plastic kits were introduced, Strombecker was famous as the premier hardwood preshaped model manufacturer. In the 1940s and 1950s, Strombecker kits were flawlessly engineered but not inexpensive. All wooden parts are hardwood and are precarved to shape - you only had to glue, sand and paint to finish them.

From the mid to late 1930s. New old stock from a closed down hobby shop. Because they are in 'new' condition, the end flaps and tabs are in great condition with no tears or rips. This large model is 35.5" long and has a 71" wingspan. This is one of the famous Sal Taibi's National award winning designs for use with 'hot' engines .15 to .29 displacement. Sal was one of the early 'Kings Of Gas Free Flight' and a very gifted designer. Feature high quality balsa and plywood parts, spar and strip wood, metal stock as required, aluminum motor mount, hardware and excellent full size plans. Never started and inside it is in factory-new condition. The small parts are still in the factory sealed clear bag; the other parts have been inventoried complete with the plans. NOTE: this kit was shipped in the very sturdy box shown. Unless you specify otherwise, we will send it wrapped in brown paper. If you wish to have it boxed, extra postage will apply. Designed for 'Sniffing Thermals,' the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and powered models (most all driven by Brown engines) took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all in a stable fashion and without any operator inputs once the airplane took off.
