Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc++
$349
Rare first issue that is 100% correct. The box has excellent color and gloss, four solid original corners (no repairs), no fading or stains, no missing litho or tears, no tags or tag marks and no tape or tape marks (other than the factory sealing tape of course). Flaws include very light general wear as shown and moderate corner wear at the lower left corner. This first issue has minimal surface detail and is molded in the correct non-metallic medium blue and clear plastic. It also has the correct rectangle-based clear display stand and the instructions match this perfectly. (The second and all later issues had greatly increased rivet detail and were molded in a metallic blue plastic) The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The decals are flat and in amazing 'near mint' condition with only the slightest yellowing. The instructions are 'near mint+' with slight yellowing being the only flaw. Even the original factory packing tissue is present.

Wood Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed VG

Still factory sealed but there is a split on the right short side. This kit is probably from the late 1970s/1980s and is a reissue of the original 1950s model. Features traditional wood/tissue construction, printwood sheets, factory cut spars and stringers, fully formed and finished wheels, wood stock as required, propeller, rubber motor, thrust button, clear canopy material, full size plans, building instructions and covering tissue. These are the usual contents, but since the kit is still factory sealed it is impossible to determine. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

One of a very popular line of World War 1 flying aircraft stick and tissue kits with 18 inch wingspan. Kit features scale plastic wheels, plastic propeller, light vacuform nose cowl, die cut balsa parts, colored tissue, rubber motor and full decals. Includes full size, detailed plans. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Still the only injection molded, 1/72 scale model of the very first Bf-109. The model features very fine recessed panel lines, many brass PE details, film instruments, very good cockpit, fully enclosed wheel wells and more. Includes four-view paint guide and decals for two different paint schemes for prototype V-1 - Rechlin Test Center D-IABA Autumn 1935 and Summer 1935. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Only 15 months after Willy Messerschmitt designed the aircraft, the first Bf-109 (D-IABI) was ready to fly. The pilot was Flugkapitan Hans Knoetzsch. The prototype did not have an automatic retraction mechanism, so Knoetasch had to wind the landing gear up manually. he stayed airborne for 20 minutes and made several circuits of the airfield. In his opinion, the Bf-109 V-1 had perfect handling qualities. The first '109 was born - six months before the Hawker Hurricane and 10 months before the Supermarine Spitfire. The V-1 was fitting with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel V engine that produced 695 hp for take off and a Schwarz two-bladed fixed-pitch wooden propeller.
