1960 issue with modified molds, 'textured' hardbox and frameable John Steel box artwork. The texture was used to make the artwork seem more like a painting, and it did. This large and detailed full hull kit builds up to almost 15" long. It is not simply a reissue of the earlier 'The Sullivans' but Revell correctly modified it to represent a late-war Fletcher class DD. Never started. Original issue from 1979 from the world-famous Twentieth Century Fox movie. Very large scale model that measures over 18 inches long when assembled. Detailed cockpit and rear jets are illuminated. Seated figures of Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and Han Solo are included. The radar antenna and laser cannons tilt and swivel. The laser cannons are also illuminated. The cargo ramp opens and closes and the landing gear can be displayed or stowed to 'in-flight' mode. Molded in gray, clear and with metal parts and very small light bulbs. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the internal factory sealed bags and the parts never factory sealed (clear parts) have been inventoried complete including instructions.

This is a factory-sealed case of 12 Hobby-XV-3 model kits from the 1950s. Hobby-Time shipped them to the address on the box, and I purchased them from the man at that address. The case has never been opened and is still securely sealed top and bottom with the factory tape. The box is in 'excellent' condition. The actual model kits (12 inside the case!) are the one and only issue of this amazing aircraft. This is a very nice kit for that time with fine raised panel lines, interior detail and molded in gloss silver and clear.

Early issue from the 1960s. Nichimo created an excellent line of unique 1/500 scale battleship and heavy cruiser models; the earliest ones have rare glossy box art from the 'Golden Age' of Japanese model kit illustrations. This model can be built for operation in water or static full hull or waterline versions. Very well detailed and molded for that time and features a metal & brass gearbox for dual propeller drive, u-joints, brass battery contacts and switch, metal propeller shaft, one piece lower hull (molded in the correct dark red), one piece upper hull (molded in gray), detailed deck and superstructure, rotating main turrets and separately molded secondary battery and AA guns, catapults, floatplanes and more. Never started. The plastic parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags; the hardware parts have been inventoried and NOTE: missing one metal shaft; otherwise compete. Includes the silver and gold foil covered name display card and instructions. Please note that Nichimo did not supply decals with this issue.

1970s issue of one of the old 1930s kits. It features traditional wood/tissue construction, quality die-cut printwood, factory-cut stingers and spars, fully formed wheels, thrust button and propeller; covering tissue and detailed full size plans with building instructions. Never started and inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Rare Mandrill reissue of Strombeckers famous Sea Dart model from the 1950s. This was a bagged-only release and never had a box. Molded in dark blue plastic. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes the correct Mandrill-issued instructions. Please NOTE that Mandrill did not furnish decals with this kit. Strombecker was very well known for producing the finest pre-carved hardwood aircraft and missile kits, but they had a very short journey into the plastic model field. After making the Sea Dart kit in 1956, they added four more for a total of 5 injection molded aircraft kits. All were discontinued in the mid 1960s. The Sea Dart was a supersonic design that could take off and land from water using retractable hydro-skis. Five prototypes were built and over 300 test flights made. The advent of the super carrier spelled the end of the Sea Dart, although 4 still exist on display today. Mandrill was founded by Bob Bennett in 1988 and he purchased the Strombecker molds from Polk's Hobby and Modelcraft. This kit was released in 1989. Mandrill also re-issued the plastic 1/130 scale Strombecker Martin China Clipper in a plain white box with no decals or instructions. These are the only two known releases from Mandrill.

Precise McDonnell Douglas Spartan ABM

Very rare promotional model of the 'Safeguard' ABM Missile Spartan. The Sprint and Spartan pair made up the missiles of this Anti-Ballistic Missile system with Spartan handling the longer ranges. The system was made operational on October 1 1975 and Congress voted to shut it down less than 24 hours later on October 2 1975. Condition is exceptional. Missile is NM with a tiny chip out of one fin and very slight wear. The base is NM also. Missile measures 17 inches long. There are no touch ups/repair and no cracks. Decal is near mint also on base. Base says 'Spartan - McDonnell Douglas - McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company'. Insurance required on shipping. NOTE: This model was issued with two bases. One had two pins to hold the missile. The other is the cradle pictured. This missile has the two pin holes - so it was either left over stock and put on the new base or found it's way to the newer base over the years.

Rare kit features a fantastic resin cast waterline hull of higher quality than any injection moldings could achieve, large details cast in resin and a very large number of precision cast metal small parts, metal stock and a well detailed set of instructions with the ship and class history. These resin castings are professionally done and appear to have been done in a pressure chamber as I cannot spot any air bubbles. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions, exploded parts diagram and excellent side and top detail drawings. I have listed HMS Princess Royal because the manufacturer listed the instructions as "HMS Lion and Princess Royal." I do not know what changes (if any) must be made to do Princess Royal and the instructions do not list them. Thanks to James Natt for giving us this history: 'Classic Warships' was by Steve Wiper, who (as of 2022) still produces the 'Classic Warships Profiles' in soft cover. These resin kits were well produced and included everything except photo etch. He stopped producing these models around 2000 and sold all his molds and to Chris Decker. Chris re-boxed, improved the instructions, added decals and Tom's Modelworks photoetch (both where appropriate) and sold them under the label 'Midship Models'. That ended around 2010. Both the original CW and later Midship Models are much sought after by ship modelers, especially the USN battleships.
