1987 reissue of the original 1967 kit. Very nicely done kit. Features 20 SBDs, 20" long hull, movable cranes and optional position elevators. The box art shows the wartime finish, but the kit contains decals for this or the prewar high-vis finish. The kit has never been started. Inside it is still factory bag sealed and includes decals and instructions. The Yorktown was one of three prewar sister carriers along with Enterprise (CV-6) and Hornet (CV-8). The Yorktown saw extensive action in the Coral Sea and underwent temporary repairs in record time so she could take part in the Battle of Midway. Damaged by bombs and eventually a spread of submarine-fired 'Long Lance' torpedoes, she was lost after an epic struggle to save the ship.

The instructions carefully document the techniques from the 1800s and de-mystify the process. This is a very complete kit that features a real glass bottle with a factory-carved wooden base, hardwood ship's hull that is factory cut and about 30% precarved, hardwood dowels and wood stock as required for deck houses, masts, yards etc., rigging thread, sail cloth, metal hardware, cork for the bottle, a sticker with the ship's name and date (for the display base and more. Includes very detailed and comprehensive step-by-step text and illustrated building instructions all the way up to 'dressing the bottle opening' as a finishing touch.

Very rare and especially so in this condition. This wooden model ship is dated 1950 and measures 18 inches long when assembled. It is certainly one of Ideal's most detailed efforts and features a beautiful pre-carved balsa wood hull, quality printwood parts, wood stock as required, one large factory-sealed bag of cast metal fittings and another smaller factory-sealed bag of more metal fittings, sail cloth, printed cardstock superstructure sides, a full color flag sheet as well as highly detailed three-view plans with hull cross sections, numerous superb detail drawings, very good instructions with additional building illustrations, full rigging diagram and sail details. The model has never been started. Most small parts are still in the factory sealed bags; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Includes all paperwork.

1969 two-piece box issue utilizing the original Ray Gaedke artwork from the 1950s issue. This very nicely molded kit features pilot, basic cockpit, good engine detail, rotating propeller and wheels and even rigging photos for spreader bars and wire placements. Never started. Very rare. This mid 1950s model includes all four kits in the original early Comet one-color flip top boxes. The Comet Gift Sets were well advertised but seldom seen. The kit boxes inside are all in 'Near Mint' to 'Mint' condition. The condition of the models is as follows: PL-4 Skyknight, PL-6 Thunderstreak and PL-5 Skyray: never started and inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. PL-3 Starfire: never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing two pilot's busts. Otherwise complete with all other pieces, decals and instructions present. The box is graded 'very good' because of the dark stain at the lower left. Please note, this kit must be shipped insured.
