Resin Model Kit, Box Condition: Sealed Mint
Finally, the Pride of the Italian Line in 1/350 scale! The SS Rex is from the same team that brought you the 1/350 SS Normandie Ocean Liner. This four year project is a 100% new model and represents the Rex in her glory years of the mid 1930s. All design work was done in CAD by Ken Friend, a master modeler, designer and builder of experimental engines and test equipment and an engineer who specialized in CAD/CAM/CAE Systems Management and Implementation. All of the smaller parts are printed on ultra-high resolution 3D SLA resin printers. These parts meet and often exceed what is possible with injection molded plastic. Only the larger parts (hull, deck pieces and funnels)are cast resin. These are pressure-cast from de-aired molds to minimize air bubbles. The Italian Line advertised that "The Southern Route Is the Lido Deck Route." By virtue of avoiding the stormy and cold North Atlantic, travelers experienced a true outdoor lifestyle. The Rex was intentionally designed for this. For this model, extensive research and time was spent capturing the exact look of the colorful 1st and 2nd Class Aft Pool Areas- from the changing room & showers, grab rope on the pool, pool slide, stairs & diving boards, tables with umbrellas, recessed (covered) 1st Class Restaurant/Lounge and more. Because of the superior performance of 3D Printing, over 90% of the usual PE (photoetched) metal parts are now 3D printed resin. This is a vast improvement as they are no longer flat, but are true to the shape of the prototype. This also makes for a nearly complete model "out-of-the-box." Includes a real wood deck from Scaledecks. NOTE: railings are the only parts not included with the model shown. They are not required to complete the kit, however 1/350 railings are sold by a vast number of aftermarket sources. I will refer all buyers to the sources that I believe work the best with the kit. more info >

For the advanced model collector and from 1940. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48 in the 1930s. Hawk kits were considered high quality and very complete for that time and often included metal or plastic details. and superb quality drawings for the true scale enthusiast. The side of this box shows photos of 4 other built-up Hawk aircraft kits and gives a rare look at the product line. The model features a 3D (three axis) cut fuselage, 2-D cut wings and tail features, turned and completely finished hardwood spinner & wheels, metal propeller, sandpaper, wooden stock as needed, complete insignia sheet and excellent, well-detailed plans that include many templates and painting instructions. There is even another large fold-out instruction sheet with heavily illustrated text instructions for how to carve and build a solid scale model aircraft. Even the original Hawk factory packing tissue is present. The model has not been started and is 100% complete with all parts and paperwork. Please note that this kit is simply called the "Heinkel Fighter." This kit came from the collection of one of Monogram's finest and talented Chief Designers, the man who created the original B-52 kit, B-17, B-24J, P-36A, P-39 Airacobra, P-61 Black Widow, DH Mosquito, at least one if not all of the 1/8 scale Ford cars, A-1E Skyraider and numerous other famous kits. In his collection were boxes (usually Four-Star armor that had been damaged on the box-assembly machine) labeled 'TEST SHOTS' and some with his name on it. After designing the model, he was still responsible for the entire program, at least up to the point of mass production. Test Shots were made near the end of the design process for the Chief Designer of that kit to inspect; if something was wrong, he ordered changed. If not, he would clear the kit for production. Test Shots were usually made in whatever plastic was loaded into the silo at the time and in some cases reground plastic (from defects) was even used. This is one of those kits. Ever notice that all Monogram P-40s were molded in olive-drab plastic? Well, not in this case! This test shot is molded with most of the parts in a chocolate brown plastic, some in silver and the few remaining ones in green and clear plastic. This is a pre-first issue. It has never been started. The model is inventoried with all parts and instruction present. The Four Star issue instructions are mint and may have come with the test shot for his approval or they may have been added later. I have included them because they were in the same 'TEST SHOT' box as the kit. As a note, the test shots of the Monogram Four Star Helldiver were molded in silver and clear - clear dive brakes and many other clear parts! Some test shots of the Hawker Hurricane were molded in gloss gray with a little bit of white added so the designer could see exactly how the plastic moved into and filled the cavities.

Original Renwal issue from the late 1950s; not a common modern reissue. The hardbox has fantastic artwork of Hawk in action shooting down a four engine bomber, which is probably a B-17 drone (like the Nike Ajax boxart). This was an excellent kit for that time featuring three removable missiles, a detailed launch trailer that elevates and rotates the missiles, complete radar trailer with rotating and tilting radar housings. There is a crew of four and full decals. Molded in white and olive drab plastic. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The box has typical age spotting as shown.
