Hobby Craft Twin Mustang F-82G - Escort or Night Fighter (Ex Monogram), 1/72, HC1301

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Includes parts and decals for both versions. Nicely detailed kit featuring finely molded raised details, wing machine guns with removable panel, good cockpit and very good gear well detail, opening canopies and rotating propellers. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Some molds have a colorful history; this one is no exception. At one point, Monogram leased or sold a set of Corsair molds (from the original 4 Star action kit) to Idea in Korea. Idea either made a copy of the molds or modified the molds to fit a tab on each tree with the Idea name. Hobby Craft's kit is the Monogram F-82 with the Idea runner tab; so Idea either copied the molds or modified them. On the outside of many Hobby Craft boxes it says 'Made in South Korea' - obviously Idea is one of the agents who molded kits for HC.

Airfix Boeing 314 Pan Am Clipper - 'Dixie' or BOAC 'Berwick' T4 Sky King Issue, 1/144, 04172-6

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1976 'Skyking' box issue. Very nicely molded and detailed kit that builds into a beautiful model. Includes decals for both aircraft. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats.

Sanwa Vought F4U-5N Corsair, 1/100, 1114-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Dates from the early 1960s and very hard to find. Inside, the model is factory new - all the parts and decals are still in the factory sealed clear bag. With instructions in 'very good' condition. The box is intact with all flaps and no repairs, but has the typical 'flattened' damage as shown. Sanwa was one of Japan's earliest post-WWII kit producers, making model kits in the 1950s; some sources say 1955. Kits were marketed under Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo, with the general consensus being the the later logo came out around 1960 or later. Production ended in 1964, making all Sanwa kits rare and collectible. The entire line was extensive. It included very small scale tanks (some that were motorized), battleships in three scales with the larger ones motorized with dual prop drive, slot cars, civil sport boats and an electric outboard, a full line of hand gun models that actually shot plastic bullets, two fighter groups and bomber groups (probably Monogram), several different lines of scale aircraft, missile kits, scale (static) car models of early Japanese automobiles, at least 7 flying model aircraft that had electric and rubber motors, a 'Super Control Stand' P-51 that moved with a joystick and had an electric propeller and sound unit, two different lighthouses and a windmill, an air cushion boat, motor cycles, a diving submarine (electric) and a working (rubber band) George Washington Class SSBN and even a garden tractor with an electric motor. Just before going out of business, Sanwa issued some kits in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games - these kits even included a copy of an Olympic medal.
