In the 1930s and especially during the 40s/early 50s there was a revolution in model railroading: high quality kits became available for the first time. Before this, there were few standard gauges and most railroads were scratch built to any gauge the collector desired. This kit is a classic Athearn model from that era. These kits build very realistic models because parts that are metal on the real box car are metal in the kit; same for the wooden parts. All sides are factory painted and decorated the correct colors, leaving very little painting. Includes wooden floor, metal roof and car ends as well as opening doors, metal underside and detail fittings such as AB brake set, brake wheel, etc. These make great stand alone models or high-quality rolling stock for your line. The kit has not been started. All small parts are still in factory sealed bags and all other parts have been inventoried complete with the car sides in as new condition.

Features die cut balsa parts, die-cut plywood parts, other wood stock as required, vacuform engine, cowling and other detail parts, completely finished scale wheels, metal and nylon hardware for the gas powered version, pre-formed metal gear struts, rubber motor, tissue, propeller, full size plans and a very large color decal sheet. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling models to be deluxe kits as they were very complete.

Howard, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was an AVG pilot and became the first US pilot to become an ace in both the Pacific and European theaters. His aircraft 'Ding Hao' means 'OK!' in Chinese.

NOTE: ideal builder, missing (2) small parts and a section of railing; please read carefully for the condition. One of the 'Holy Grail' of 1950s Space Kits. 1957 first and only issue 'S' kit with the fantastic box art. Molds reportedly damaged beyond use, which makes reissues impossible. The spaceship was designed by the rocket scientist Ellwyn E. Angle of Systems Laboratories Inc. Features detailed manned top stage with full interior, removable top, opening hatch, spaceship and ground crew members and detailed working launch pad. The main stages and boosters snap apart to recreate all phases of the flight from Earth takeoff, Lunar Landing and Return to Earth. The included 'XSL-01 Operations Manual' outlines in words and illustrations each phase of the spaceship's trip. Molded in the correct gloss orange, silver, gloss metallic blue and clear. Never started. All internal factory cardboard presentation material is present and excellent. Inventoried and NOTE: missing 2 small parts: (1) #7 crew member (the other 2 are present) and (1) #41 small solar collector (the other one is present). There are no other missing parts. On one #50 walkway, one short section of railing is broken off; the stanchion (vertical post) is present but a 3/4" of top rail is missing. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts present. The decals are flat and 100% intact and in 'excellent++' condition with typical age yellowing as the only flaw. Instructions are complete but only 'good' and the Operations Manual booklet is 'excellent' with typical yellowing as the only flaw. Box is graded 'very good' and displays well but has some wear and creasing, mainly at the right center side. Color and gloss are excellent. There is no fading or stains, and no price tags or tag marks. There is no tape or tape marks beyond the original factory sealing tape. Flaws include two perfectly repaired corners (all done correctly from the inside), light creasing as shown on the right center box top and creasing on the left long side. Shipping insurance is required on this kit.

Rare 1st issue with the early full color 'The Aurora Line' rectangular logo. Although not dated, the logo tells us that it is from 1954/1955. The model features a trailer with dual tires, front mount refrigeration condenser and engine, separately molded suspension and wheels, mud flaps, auxiliary wheels and 5th wheel. The White 3000 truck features frame construction with separately molded suspension, dual and single wheels, gas tanks, 5th wheel coupler, interior and two piece cab. Decals are furnished for the truck and trailer. Molded in silver (trailer) and bright, dark red (truck) and with black rubber tires. Inside, the kit is like new. All parts are still factory sealed in the crinkle bags. Decals and instructions are in 'excellent' condition.
