Comet Douglas Skyknight F3D, 1/99, PL4-29

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare full color box issue from the very late 1950s or early 1960s. This and Comet's earlier kits were in rather plain boxes, but Comet quickly saw the need for something more eye-catching. The kit is molded in glossy blue and clear plastic with Marine decals. Includes classic teardrop stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Comet originally began model production in 1929 with a line of balsa flying models. In the mid-1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small and medium scale aircraft and missile models. The early issues were in one-piece 'flip-top' boxes with only one color of ink. The second issues had as many as three colors of printing, and the last issue (this kit) had full color artwork. In 1963 Comet sold the plastic kit molds to Aurora, who reissued some but not all of the kits.

Aurora Old Timers 1911 Buick Bug, 1/16, 574-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

1963 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss dark green, gloss ivory and with plated parts and real rubber tires. Never started. The white parts are still factory sealed. The parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete and includes instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

Sold

Very rare. 1950s issue of the only injection-molded kit of the subject. Molded in white and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Aero Commander was a state-of-the-art twin engine light transport in the early 1960s. It was built by Aero Design and Engineering Co. of Bethany, Oklahoma. It was the first twin engine aircraft to be used the President of the United States and was in Presidential service in the early 1960s. This high performance 5 to 7 place was popular with business travelers and had a range of 1,050 miles and a ceiling of 22,000 feet. The Aero Commander led to the Jet Commander, which became the IAI 1121 through 1124 Westwind Business Jet. Aero Commanders can still be seen at some airports in excellent condition, but many are neglected as newer aircraft are in favor.
