Nicely molded kit measuring just over 8" long when assembled. Full hull model with complete decals and display stand. The kit has never been started. O-Lin Fleet Submarine (Gato Class, Ex-Varney)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$289

Very, very rare investment piece for the advanced collector. From the late 1940s. This is the first one I have had in 20 years of dealing with kits and among the finest condition I have seen. Molded in the correct, gloss olive-drab plastic with a two piece hull, fore and aft decks, sail and detail parts and full instructions and the correct stand marked 'FLEET SUBMARINE.' The kit has never been started and is inventoried 100% complete with all parts and 'Very Good++' condition instructions. The box is graded 'excellent' (not perfect!) and has very nice color and gloss, four solid, original corners, no price tags or tag tears, no tape except for the remains of clear tape on the two long sides where the box was factory sealed, no tape tears and no box tears, fades or missing litho. Wear includes general light shelf wear as shown and some corner and edge wear. NOTE: must be shipped insured. This kit has a fascinating history. These molds may well be the oldest production ship kit in US plastic modeling history. The kit started as the Varney Fleet Sub in the mid 1940s. It is widely believed that it was the very first USA all-plastic construction kit of a military vessel. Varney produced an all plastic aircraft kit at the same time, the PT-17. It is the #1 candidate for the first plastic airplane kit in the USA. Varney was a famous manufacture of model trains, first O then a leader in HO models. The two new additions did not sell very well - remember, the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' had yet to be issued, so the boom in modeling had not occurred. Varney soon sold the molds for the Fleet Sub and the PT-17 to O-Lin (along with the molds for a fantastic multi-media kit with a wooden hull and plastic fittings, the Varney PT Boat ). O-Lin was a joint venture by Paul Lindberg and Mr. Olsen. O-Lin successfully issued the PT Boat (the PT Boat was given an injection molded hull and deck), PT-17 Stearman and Fleet Sub but modified the molds for the Sub. The original Varney kit had a solid, one-piece black hull and gray fittings. O-Lin engineers created a two-piece hull that provided a hollow hull and made from the same shot of plastic as the fittings. The 'Lin' in O-Lin, Paul Lindberg, was already well known for his publication of articles and plans for flying model aircraft in some of the leading aviation publications in the 1940/50s.

Continental Model Airplane Co P7 Submarine - S Class?, C-1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$22

Older kit that measures 6" long when assembled. Consists of a rectangular block of balsa, printwood, wood stock, flag sheet and plans. The plans have text instructions, color scheme and show the front, side and top elevations as well as hull cross sections and railing detail. I cannot identify P7 by name - from the looks and date, she is an S Class - but that is just a guess. Never started and complete.

Comet USS Perch SS-176 Porpoise Class Submarine, 1/300, J4

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$44

Rare. The plans call this the Perch but have a 'P5' designator on the conning tower. From the layout I believe it to be SS176 - but there was a time when "P" codes were used on American submarines. This model measures 12 inches long when complete and features a factory 3D carved hull that needs sanded to the round shape, two sheets of quality printwood, wood stock, sandpaper and even full decals. The plans are excellent and show hull sections, many detail drawings and have instructions and paint guide. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions/plans.

Monogram Japanese Submarine I-19 with Glen Seaplane - (ex-Aurora), 1/275, 3103

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

$89

Still factory sealed. From original Aurora molds. The I-19 is famous for firing history's most successful torpedo spread off Guadalcanal. On September 14, 1942, the I-19 was patrolling of the Solomons when the crew made visual contact with the American forces. After working into position, she fired a 6 torpedo spread. Three hit and sank the US Carrier CV-7 WASP, and the remaining three exploded against the BB North Carolina and the destroyer O'Brien. The destroyer sank and the North Carolina had to be repaired at Pearl till November 16, 1942. The I-19's Glen seaplane also flew night reconnaissance on February 23, 1942 over Pearl Harbor for the planned second attack by Emily flying boats on that base. Large scale kit is almost 16 inches long when assembled. This is an excellent model for that time from Aurora's improved efforts of the late 1960s/early 1970s. Aurora knew that the older kits were outclassed and cut a new series of better molds including several ships, helos and subs. The result was higher mold quality and very good detail, such as this kit. Includes display stand, decals, periscope and cranes, Glen seaplane, conning tower and deck guns.

$129

Dated 1975, but this is a quality Revell of Germany issue and is probably a later date that what is shown. This is Revell's own cut away nuclear SSBN, not the Renwal reissue. Revell George Washington Class SSBM Nuclear Powered Polaris Missile Submarine, 1/261, H425-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$125

Rare, early Sea Power hardbox issue dated 1961. This kit caused a real issue with the Navy who was shocked that Revell had been able to issue such an accurate model. It was highly detailed for that time will full interior and snap-off starboard hull half and two Polaris missiles that 'fire' using spring power. Molded in the correct gloss medium gray, light green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the box displays better than the 'very good' grade but is graded as such because there is a tear with missing litho on the left side. The missing section measures about 1" x .75".
