Aurora Rockwell 1121 Jet Commander, 1/72, 85-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc++

$109

Factory sealed. 1968 issue hardbox. Nicely detailed kit features recessed panel lines, full interior with rear bulkhead, couch, chairs and console, cockpit with chairs, instrument panel, control yokes, forward bulkhead and clear windows. Includes optional position landing gear and colorful decals. The Jet Commander was the jet powered follow-on to the famous Aero Commander twin private aircraft. But shortly after 1121 delivery began in 1965, Rockwell bought Aero Commander. The 1121 was competition for the Rockwell Sabreliner business jet in the same class, so Rockwell sold the Jet commander to IAI. Initial releases under IAI were called the 1123. Improvements to the 1123 design lead to the IAI 1124 Westwind powered by 731 fan engines. Legend has it that these molds were lost and/or destroyed in a train wreck. Monogram bought Aurora's molds and was transporting them to the Monogram factory when the accident happened.

Big scale model features a fully carved-to-shape balsa fuselage that even has the turret hole predrilled, excellent profile-cut hardwood wings, engine nacelles, horizontal and vertical stabilizers, fully formed main and nose wheels, other wood stock as required, metal foil for details, two sheets of color insignia-one with USAF markings and the other with kill markings/silhouettes, a tube of glue (solid and stuck to one stabilizer) and very large and complete plans that include aircraft history and specifications, three views, numerous cross sections for templates and airfoils, antenna details and even text instructions. Never started and complete. Consolidated Model Engineering Co, of 3079 Third Avenue, NY, NY, manufactured the famous Burkard Giant Solids, Bay Ridge Super Gas Jobs and Jackson's Strato Spear. They also distributed Bantam engine factory replacement parts.
