UPC Marquis de Lafayette Coach / Carriage - (Green Sky) (ex-Miniature Masterpieces / ex-Revell / ex-Life-Like), 1/40, 4003-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$39

Ex-Miniature Masterpieces (Adams), ex-Revell. From original molds. Like all Miniature Masterpieces kits, this one is very finely engraved and molded with excellent detail. In addition to the carriage, it includes horses, the General, his lady, driver and a display base. Molded in red. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. This kit has a long history! 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lou Glasser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although having the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. However, there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954, making the one-year original issues very rare. After Revell no longer saw these as 'market viable' they molds were sold or leased to UPC. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufactures and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s. Eventually Life-Like ended up with the molds and reissued them. And from J. Boyle - The actual carriage still exists and is displayed at the Studebaker National museum in SouthBend, Indiana. It seems the Studebaker firm bought the carriage at the turn of the last century. When Studebaker quit building cars, it was donated to the City for eventual placement in a museum, along with many cars and other historic horse-drawn carriages collected by the firm.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Very early 1960s issue in fantastic 'excellent++' condition. Nice 1/144 scale kit of the world's first jet airliner. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including 'near mint' condition decals and instructions. The initial Comet Is were in operation long before the 707, which gave the British an incredible post-war lead in the expanding civil aviation market. Just as the Comet was flying high and orders were pouring in from around the world, Comets began to mysteriously fall out of the sky. Everything from lighting to terrorist bombs were blamed. For months the root cause went undiscovered. Then, in a landmark investigation that is considered the first modern post-crash autopsy, it was discovered that the stresses around a small ADF window on the top of the fuselage were causing metal fatigue failure when the fuselage was pressurized. To confirm this, a Comet I was placed in a water tank and subjected to pressurization stresses. After some time, a dramatic failure occurred. Then parts of a crashed Comet were pulled from underwater proving once and for all that this was the root cause.

Ross Abare issue Gotha. Mr. Abare contracted with Aurora to produce a copy of the original 1958 kit.
