Renwal M65 280mm Atomic Cannon with M249 and M250 50 Ton Heavy Gun Lifting Truck/Transporters, 1/32, 553-498

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$245

Hard-to-find Renwal first issue of this very desirable kit- not the common Revell reissue. The box top says 'Fully Operating Model Does Everything But Fire' and it is true. The model consists of over 300 parts and has many action features typical of Renwal models. The wheels roll, tractors can be hooked to the cannon which can be stowed in the 'travel' position. The gun can move into the 'fire' position off the tractors and can be trained realistically. It is molded in olive drab plastic and the inner factory cardboard divider is present. The kit has never been started. All bags but one are still factory sealed. The "A" transport generic parts bag was split, so I opened it and did an inventory - it is complete. The few big parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete. All inspection slips are present also as well as a smaller-format Renwal kit catalog. Decals are in remarkable 'excellent' condition with the typical yellowing and some light creases as the only flaws. The instructions are also 'excellent' with one closed fold split as the only real flaw. This early issue has the main gun barrel factory built and painted; the paint is in 'excellent' condition with only a few scuffs. The box displays much better than the 'good-' grade. But I graded it as such because there are three closed-split corners (two with clear tape on them), other smaller closed splits at two corners, edge wear and general light wear. The lower box tray has a long closed split along one edge.

Monogram Wright Brothers Flyer I (Kitty Hawk) - Blue Box Issue, 1/40, PA201-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$32

Second issue is dated 1967. Possibly the best injection molded kit of the first aircraft to sustain powered, controlled flight. Excellent detail and includes rigging material and instructions. Also features figures of Orville and Wilbur Wright, monorail launching track and carrier dolly and historical accessories ("C" clamp, bench, can, spade and starting battery) that were all present at the first flight. Molded in ivory and brown with a clear stand. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

Monogram Mercury and Gemini Capsules - Gus Grissom Memorial Combo with Collectors Patches, 1/48, 85-4166

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

$125

Still factory sealed but has damage as shown. 1999 reissue of the 1964 Revell kit with a Monogram box. Very nicely detailed 1/48 scale kit that contains both models and display stands as well as collector's patches. This kit is a fine example of 'mold swapping'. Originally Revell cut the molds and issued this kit in the 1960s. Then Revell and Monogram merged, and the kit was reissued under the Monogram name.

Guillows Nieuport 11 - 24 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion, 203

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$32

From the late 1960s. Large scale model can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern small, light servos and receivers. Features quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, die-cut plywood firewall for gas operation, light plastic cowl, pilot bust, machine guns, engine and more, scale plastic wheels, rubber motor, thrust button, plastic propeller, big sheet of full color decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

NOTE: this kit has minor assembly. The plastic motor halves are professionally assembled. There is no other assembly. The kit has been inventoried complete with all parts, decals and plans. Some parts have been professionally punched out but all are accounted for. A professional draftsman drew some assembly guide lines on the plans (wings only) Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.
