Revell Lockheed F-94C Starfire - Pre 'S' Issue, 1/56, H210-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++++

1954 Pre-S issue. This is the third issue. The first issue was in the simple one-piece box and Revell quickly converted to this two-piece box as it was much more durable and a full-color lithographed 'slick' could be used. For the second issue, Revell added rivet and raised panel line detail as well as landing gear, and went to this box and H210-79 kit number. The famous 'Globe' clear stand was added, but the 2nd issue has the rare one piece stand arm and the instructions reflecting that. The 3rd issue (this kit) is identical to the 2nd issue except that the 'Globe' stand was changed to the sturdy 3 piece arm version. The model has never been started. The parts are either still in the factory sealed bag or have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

The bottom box (tray) includes all of the special inserts but also has a great deal of wear & tape on it, and is missing the left short side. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911) and Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around this time. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - they were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream-to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business-Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's Great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Civil Vehicle EMF 30 Racer, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Rare kit from April of 1950. Big, large scale kit measuring 8.5 inches long when assembled. Well detailed for that time. Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and superb cast metal grill/radiator, wheels and steering wheel. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Includes superb, large full-size plans with many elevation drawings, numerous detail drawings and templates, extensive and detailed text instructions, painting guide and even ideas for how to upholster your car using the correct tufting pattern! The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The EMF 30 was produced by the EMF company which stood for Everett, Metzger and Flanders - the three owners. But in the early days it was jokingly referred to as 'The Every Morning Fix It" and "Every Mechanical Failure." Each car came complete with a catalog numbering every single part, which made replacements easily obtainable. The racer engine was four cylinders cast in pairs and turned out a very respectable 30 horsepower. It had a 106 inch wheelbase and held 15 gallons. All cars were painted EMF Red and were a sight to behold. The racer had a three speed transmission on rear axle, geared to 3.25 to 1 inch high, magneto ignition, 32 x 3.5 inch tires, thermo syphon cooling (no pump) and weighed in at 1800 pounds. At Walla Walla Washington Country Fair in 1911 the EMF racer beat a Wright Biplane in two of three races. It made a five lap circuit in 5 minutes 26.5 seconds. It was the fastest time of any car or aircraft at the competition. Streamlining is not new - in those days Grandpa's hot rod was a regular stock car stripped of anything that would give wind resistance- fenders, horn, windshield, etc. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars, like Hudson Miniatures. The full name was Fador Mfg. Company and the address was 501E. Clinton St., Elmira, NY. It appears that Hudson beat Fador to the scene by a year; Hudson's spectacular product line growth starting in 1948 may have influenced Fador in the choice of subject and scale. Fador called the line 'Smallersters' and the design of the kits is very similar. Fortunately, Fador chose completely different vehicles. Because of their great decisions, these are often the only model kits ever made of these historical cars. There is no record of Fador making any plastic kits; the introduction and overwhelming popularity of the Highway Pioneers and the other kits that quickly followed may have driven them out of the market as it did many other wood manufactures. In 1949 the Fador line consisted of a 1909 Hupmobile Roadster, 1904 Cadillac Runabout, 1905 REO 4 Passenger Runabout and one kit that was "3 In 1' - it made one of the following: 1909 EMF Single Rear Seater, 1909 EMF Touring or EMF Roadster. The Baker Electric kit was introduced in 1950 and possibly others as well.
