Still factory sealed; the seal has shrunk and pulled the box top slightly concave. First issue dated 1966 and part of the very famous line of 1/48 scale World War II action kits. Finely molded and detailed for that time with traditional Monogram quality. Features optional parts so you can built a the ship-based (float) or wheeled land version, good cockpit detail, underwing bombs, elevating and rotating gun, pilot and gunner figures, five piece canopy that can be positioned closed or in several open configurations and choice of US Navy or Royal Navy decals. The Royal Navy aircraft were called Kingfisher I and 100 of them were delivered with both wheel and float gear. The US Navy aircraft is that of Lieutenant William F. Eadie from a Kingfisher squadron based in the Ellice Islands. He spotted and rescued Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker and his companions after they had been on a raft in the Pacific for 21 days and virtually given up for lost. Lt. Eadie moved the most injured into the radio compartment while Rickenbacker and the other crew member were lashed to the wings. Eadie figured that the aircraft could not fly, and luckily he met a PT boat and transfered the uninjured men to it.

1969 hardbox issue. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Aurora realized that it needed to produce new and better kits if they were to stay in business. Several helicopters, aircraft and ships were released with markedly improved mold quality from the older kits. The HH-3 is one of those kits. 1960s issue with dramatic Craftmaster artwork. This full-hull model is well detailed for that time. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. On March 8, 1942, the Campbeltown sailed up the Loire River. Her mission was to destroy the Normandie Drydock, a possible haven for the Tirpitz which was holed up on Norway at this time. The Campbeltown was disguised as a German warship and the bow was packed with 8500 lbs of high explosive depth charges. Under a RAF diversion, Campbeltown fought her way up the river and rammed the dock doors at full speed. Charges at the stern sank the back of the ship and she was wedged in the dock. During a German inspection 8 hours later, the charges went off, scattering parts of the ship up to one mile away. The dock was rendered useless to the Tirpitz, who now had to stay in Norway.
