Aurora Old Timers 1911 Buick Bug, 1/16, 574-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$129

1963 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. The kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail. It builds up a rolling chassis like the real car, and includes full exhaust and a detailed interior. Molded in gloss dark green, gloss ivory and with plated parts and real rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.

$119

1961 first issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts'. Molded in gloss yellow, dark wood tan and with plated parts and real rubber tires. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. Aurora N-156 Freedom Fighter (F-5A Tiger), 1/48, 140-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+++

$65

1962 first issue with 98 cent price extension on the part number and 'Famous Fighters' in the box top oval sunburst Aurora logo. This was the the only year for this logo on this kit, making it the rarest of the issues. Features fantastic Jo Kotula box artwork. Kit includes pilot, cockpit and instrument panel, three drop tanks and early AIM-9 Sidewinder Air-to-Air Missiles. Molded in white and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. This kit is a very good representation of the rare 'Freedom Fighter' prototype N-156. It developed into the F-5, which was widely exported and saw service in over 30 countries. Only three of the N-156 prototypes were built. The design centered around two GE J85 turbojets which originally powered the ADM-20 Quail decoy carried by the B-52 fleet. Initially there seemed to be little demand until President Kennedy's Military Assistance Program required a low-cost fighter that could be provided to US Allies. The N-156 was easily the top choice. It was renamed the F-5 and the rest is history - it became one of the most widely used fighter/bombers in post-WWII history and is still in service in some air forces.

Aurora The Blue Knight Of Milan, 1/8, 472-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$85

Classic and very popular Aurora knight kit from the original molds. This example is from the 1963 release. The box is in exceptional condition. The only flaws are light creasing on the sides and general light wear. Large 1/8 scale kit is molded gloss dark blue and has the original blue plume. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts, plume and excellent instructions. In the mid 1950s, Aurora bought three 'Knight' molds from Crown Plastics and issued them as K1, K2 and K3. These were the very first Aurora figure kits and they sported the 1956-only rectangular 'Northern Lights' logo with the correct 'Crown Line' logo inside it. The sales success of the Knight prompted Aurora to launch an entire line of figure kits. The knights themselves stayed in production long after many other figures were discontinued.

Aurora Sikorsky HH-3 Jolly Green Giant, 1/72, 505-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$75

1969 hardbox issue in 'excellent' condition. The box has factory-new color and gloss, four perfect corners and no tape or price tags. There is only light general wear and the main flaw is that the box litho is on crooked. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Aurora realized that it needed to produce new and better kits if they were to stay in business. Several helicopters, aircraft and ships were released with markedly improved mold quality from the older kits. The HH-3 is one of those kits. The result is a very nice scale kit with fine molded detail. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the instrument panel is a slightly different shade of green. It is from a later issue of this same kit.
