Sterling Curtiss P-6E Hawk Drops Bombs In Flight - 16 inch Wingspan Flying Model, A10-149

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

16 inch wingspan kit for rubber free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for dropping bombs in flight. Stick and tissue model featuring quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, other wood stock as required, die-cut clear windshield, vac plastic details including radiator scoop, engine cowling, pilot bust, wheels pants, exhaust ports and more, finished wire landing gear struts, finished main and tail wheels, rubber motor, plastic prop, covering tissue and a big full color decal sheet. Includes excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started and inventoried complete. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.

Minicraft Boeing B-52H Stratofortress - with GMA-87A Skybolt / AGM-69 SRAM / AGM-28 Hound Dog / ADM-20 Quail Missiles - (ex-Crown), 1/144, 14615

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG++

Sold

Still factory sealed. Very nice model from high quality ex-Crown molds. This is often considered the finest Cold-War B-52 due to the large and varied weapons load. It is an older but excellent kit with all recessed panel line detail. Features all the missiles listed. Has markings for two cold-war BUFFS - 19 BW at Wurtsmith AFB, 1962 (Cuban Missile Crisis) and 449 BW, Kincheloe AFB in the early 1960s The Skybolt was a plan to deliver an ALBM (Air Launched Ballistic Missile) from a B-52 to greatly enhance survivability. Skybolt failed 5 of 6 initial tests, but finally was successful. However, the program was canceled due to the availability of the Polaris SLBM. Plans to equip the RAF Vulcan with Skybolt fell through and left with British with no modern nuclear force, causing them to adapt the Polaris SLBM and passing strategic nuclear capability from the RAF to the RN. AGM-28 Hound Dog was a sleek design to help B-52 penetrate thick SAM defenses. Hound Dog could use its engines to help the B-52 during take off and then could be refueled from the B-52 tanks. This was an important point as the B-52 carried 2 of these missiles at 5 tons each. Hound Dog had a range of 200 to 500 miles (depending on launch height) at Mach 2.0 and an accuracy of one mile at those ranges. The warhead was 4 megatons. SRAM was a nuclear-armed short range missile carried in quantity of 20. SRAM was designed to blast holes in defenses in front of the B-52 and for also for the final target. Quail was a decoy that would mimic the B-52 with radar reflectors, infrared, radar repeaters and chaff decoys. Quail did reach operational status and operated on some Hound Dog-equipped B-52s.

The Royal Navy aircraft were called Kingfisher I and 100 of them were delivered with both wheel and float gear. The US Navy aircraft is that of Lieutenant William F. Eadie from a Kingfisher squadron based in the Ellice Islands. He spotted and rescued Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker and his companions after they had been on a raft in the Pacific for 21 days and virtually given up for lost. Lt. Eadie moved the most injured into the radio compartment while Rickenbacker and the other crew member were lashed to the wings. Eadie figured that the aircraft could not fly, and luckily he met a PT boat and transfered the uninjured men to it.

Aurora Sikorsky HH-3 Jolly Green Giant, 1/72, 505-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

1969 hardbox issue in 'excellent' condition. The box has factory-new color and gloss, four perfect corners and no tape or price tags. There is only light general wear and the main flaw is that the box litho is on crooked. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, Aurora realized that it needed to produce new and better kits if they were to stay in business. Several helicopters, aircraft and ships were released with markedly improved mold quality from the older kits. The HH-3 is one of those kits. The result is a very nice scale kit with fine molded detail. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the instrument panel is a slightly different shade of green. It is from a later issue of this same kit.
