Renwal Wrecker Crane US Army 5 Ton 6 x 6, 1/32, M559-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc-

Rare original issue from the 1950s - not the modern reissue. This large model has 155 parts and many action features. The kit of the six-wheel drive 5 ton Wrecker was designed straight from US Army Blueprints and data from the US Army Ordnance Corps. The kit incorporates nearly all the movable features of the actual equipment. The front wheels steer realistically, the hood opens to show the highly detailed engine, the windshield is collapsible and the doors of the cab can be opened and closed. The cab can be enclosed with a simulated canvas top. The rear train provides realistic suspension over irregular surfaces. The crane is completely operable and can hoist actual objects. The winch can be used realistically to pull other models. The jacks can be extended and lowered to support the truck. Additional sheave blocks are provided for hoisting and pulling operations. All four functions of the crane - lifting or lowering the shipper, extending or retracting the boom, winding or unwinding the hoist drum and swinging the boom to the left or right - can be realistically simulated. Inside, there has been no assembly but NOTE: the face and hands of one figure has been neatly painted. There is no other painting. The parts have been inventoried 100% complete and include decals and instructions. NOTE: one part (a pulley) is a lighter color of plastic. It is from a later issue of this kit.

Hobby Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1 - Soviet Rocket Fighter - Bagged, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Still factory sealed with the original header. Limited run Russian injection molded kit with brown and an injection molded clear canopy. There is little flash and fine raised and recessed detail. Please note that the kit did not come with decals and the instructions are inside the header. 'BI' stood for Blizhnii Istrebitel, which was 'close-range fighter' in Russian. Obviously, it also stood for the last names of the designers. The program was the Soviet Union's effort to produce a low cost rocket interceptor. The airplane flew and flew well, but it was plagued by engine issues, corrosion from nitric acid, and eventually tail flutter at high speeds that caused the loss of the most experienced test pilot, Grigory Yakovlevich Bakhchivandzhi. The early development started in 1938, with the first flights in 1940. The aircraft underwent a series of engine improvements and was still testing through 1945. The aircraft never entered series production. Bi-1 through BI-9 were built.

Dramatic Craftmaster artwork of an Il-2M3 attacking train tracks and a locomotive. The legendary Stormovik gave the Germans nothing but trouble on the Eastern Front. Designed as a heavily armed single seat or dual seat attack aircraft, the Stormovik was very difficult to shoot down; even then if the pilot could crash land it, he had an excellent chance of walking away and flying again the next day. Il-2M3s endlessly attacked German forward and rear positions effectively and in large numbers till the end of the war. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

First issue from the 1950s in the one-piece box. The box is in excellent condition. Inside, the kit parts are still sealed in the original factory crinkle bag. Molded in high gloss yellow and black. In the 1920s/30/s/40s Hawk made constant scale 1/48 aircraft kits from wood. In 1946 they added plastic injection molded kits to the line and were possibly the first injection molded kit manufacturer in the USA. When Hawk made an early jump to all-plastic kits they kept the 1/48 scale and created these new one-piece boxes with two color artwork. The model has not been started. Complete with instructions and all parts. This is from the early part of the first issue, and Hawk did not issue decals until later.

Cleveland Travel-Air Mystery Ship - Flying Or Scale, 1/16, SF-2

The engine core (crankcase) parts have been cut out and assembled. Quality of assembly is 'very good+.' The cowl parts and a few other have been cut out but not assembled; quality of cutting is 'very good++.' There is no other work done. The kit has been inventoried complete with all parts, plans and insignia sheets. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
