Sealsmodel Hashidate and Itsukushima ( Matsushima Class oProtected Cruisers) - Two Ship Kits, 1/700, SMP003800

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$32

Includes both cruiser kits. Very highly detailed and finely molded waterline models. The kits have never been started. They have been inventoried complete with all parts and includes flags and instructions. The Matsushima class consisted of three ships - Matsushima, Hashidate and Itsukushima. These three ships were the primary Japanese Naval force during the First Sino-Japanese War. On the advice of the French military adviser Louis-mile Bertin, these ships were light, fast, thinly armored but had a huge main gun. The first of the class was built in France and delivered in 1891. While the basic design sounded good, it was not workable in service. The boilers also proved defective, with Itsukushima's failing during the delivery voyage. It was only after a prolonged stay in Ceylon and a visit by a French emergency team that she eventually made it to Japan. The Japanese wisely upgrade the boilers but the basic design could not be changed. But as the most modern ships in the fleet, they were destined for very active service. In the First Sino-Japanese War, they were certainly enough to overwhelm the inferior Chinese ships. Although badly outdated, the sisters were also very active in the Russo-Japanese War.

Sealsmodel Mikasa Pre-Dreadnought Battleship, 1/700, SMP0013800

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$36

Very highly detailed and finely molded waterline model. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. Mikasa was the only ship of her class and took parts in the Sino-Japanese war. In the late 1890s the Japanese shipyards were not quite yet ready for such a project, so the Navy contracted with Vikers in Great Britain to build this ship, which is actually a highly modified Formidable class. Mikasa saw a great amount of action at Port Arthur and the Battle of the Yellow Sea. She was preserved as a museum ship in 1923. Mikasa suffered from neglect during and after WWII, but was restored to her former glory in the 1950s after a campaign led by the Japan Times and Admiral Chester Nimitz. The Mikasa is the only surviving pre-dreadnought in the world.

Sealsmodel Fuji Pre-Dreadnought Battleship, 1/700, SMP0103800

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$42

Very highly detailed and finely molded waterline model. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes flags and instructions. Fuji was a very famous and active Japanese capital ship. In the late 1890s the Japanese shipyards were not quite yet ready for such a project, so the Navy contracted with Thames Iron Works in Great Britain to build the class of four. Fuji took parts in the Russo-Japanese War (19041905) in the Battle of Port Arthur with her sister Yashima. Fuji then engaged Russian forces in the Battle of the Yellow Sea and Tsushima. In 1910 she was designated a coastal defense ship in 1910 and served in a training roll. She was hulked in 1922 and actually survived WWII to be scrapped in 1948.

Heller Submarine Cruiser NN3 Surcouf, 1/400, 1074

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$24

Includes the best article I have read a about this unique submarine. Surcouf was a huge 360 foot long submarine cruiser with twin 8 inch guns, heavy AA guns, torpedo tubes for two different diameter torpedoes and a seaplane/hanger. The advanced design had a range of 10,000 miles but experienced many critical teething and design issues. Due to this fact, she was the only ship of her class. Her fate is unknown except that she may have sunk in the Gulf of Mexico. Nicely molded full-hull kit from the 1970s. Includes seaplane. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions.

AMT XB-35 / YB-35 Flying Wing, 1/72, 8615

Renwal The Visible Airplane Engine WASP 9 Cylinder Radial by Pratt & Whitney, 1/4, 809

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$1200

From the late 1950s. Very large (1/4 scale) and highly detailed kit. By far the finest working visible aircraft engine kit ever made. Comes with electric motor, gear and battery boxes and all hardware. Transparent housings permit viewing the correctly working pistons, valves, rocker arms, connecting rods, cam and gears in action with synchronized firing of the spark plugs using red electric bulbs. Propeller also changes pitch. Kit is molded in clear, red, black, blue metallic and gray plastic. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. The inner (bottom or tray) box is excellent, and all cardboard inserts and clear panels are intact as shown and display very well. The outer box has seen significant wear as you can see. It had closed splits along the seams (corners and one side) and I correctly fixed those from the inside with card stock and book binding glue. The kit has not been started. It has been very carefully inventoried and the plastic parts are 100% complete. The metal parts and bulbs are all still in factory sealed envelopes. The Renwal cement is present and mint. Includes all the factory paperwork- instructions, parts sheet, yellow lubrication warning, small Renwal catalog and special booklet on 'The Aircraft Engine and How It Operates.' All of these are in 'excellent' to 'near mint' condition. It is amazing that this kit is complete - most of these models, even if still factory sealed, are missing parts due to poor packing procedures.
