Revell USS Ward DD-139 Destroyer, 1/240, 5023

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has many splits. Well detailed, large scale full-hull model measures 15.75 inches long when assembled. The Ward was a Wickes-class 1247-ton destroyer launched in 1918 . After serving as a station ship during the first trans-Atlantic flights of NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 in 1919, she came back to the Pacific and was decommissioned there in July 1921. In 1920 the ship received the hull number DD-139. On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Ward was on patrol just outside Pearl Harbor. She spotted and sank Japanese Midget Submarine and fired the first US shots of WWII. The Ward saw extensive activity through the war as a transport in most of the major battle areas of the Pacific as a fast transport. During the Leyte operations she took a Kamikaze hit amidship and the crew had to abandon her. The destroyer USS O'Brien had to sink the Ward with gunfire. The Commanding Officer of the O'Brien was William W. Outerbridge, who had been in command of Ward off Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. The date that she was sunk was December 7th, 1944, three years to the day of her opening shots.

Revell SMS Seeadler (Sea Eagle) German WWI Commerce Raider - With 'S' Cement, 1/232, H382-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

Sold

Rare 1960 hardbox first issue with John Steel artwork. Includes a never-opened, mint tube of Revell 'Type S' Cement that is still wrapped in the factory soft paper protector. This is a kit of a fantastic subject -the famous WWI sailing commerce raider of Count Felix Von Luckner. Very well detailed kit for that time. Full hull kit is molded in gray, brown and black and includes rigging thread and full rigging instructions. The kit has never been started. All parts, glue and paperwork is still in the factory-sealed clear internal bag. NOTE: there is damage to the port hull half. The front 2" of the bow has cleanly broke off. The break is straight with no bending and the repair will be straight-forward. The SMS Seeadler was a unique WWI raider in that it was not designed to elude the British blockade and break out to sea...it was designed to pass right through the blockade within full view of the British before attacking allied shipping around the world. No detail was overlooked in the Seeadler's preparation, right down to a Norwegian-speaking crew. The plan went perfectly - and the Seeadler passed inspection at the British Blockade. Her non-threatening appearance helped her in an active and colorful raiding career that nearly went around the world. I highly recommend reading any of several books that you can find about this ship. Von Luckner himself became quite a celebrity for his exciting exploits.
