Monogram B-24 Liberator Speedee-Bilt - Five Star Super Deluxe Kit, 1/60, H4-495

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$625

Dated 1954. Rare, desirable and very collectible. Classic early multi-media kit with a fantastic internal box presentation. The box top has excellent color and gloss but general wear as shown, two properly repaired (from the inside) split corners and a closed tear (also repaired) on the lower side. Inside, the kit is factory new. All of the factory cardboard presentation material is present and grades from 'mint' to 'excellent++.' Includes numerous plastic parts in red, gray, clear and black, four unopened glass bottle of Mono*Dope that are still good, an unopened tube of MonoGlue still in the original mint box, all prefabricated wooden parts including the amazing Monofoil wing, three sheets of die-cut and factory painted wood (unpunched), colored die-cut cardstock sheet, sandpaper, gun barrel plastic material, decals in amazing 'near mint' condition, 'near mint' instruction book and full size plans and even a miniature Monogram Catalog showing this kit and the entire Speedee-Bilt line for '54. The kit has never been started. It has been carefully inventoried 100% complete with all parts, paperwork, instructions, plans and decals. Amazingly, the celluloid plastic parts range from no warping to very slight warping (on two of the nacelles). This is very rare, as that type of plastic was unstable and warp easily over time. Before injection molded plastic kits were common, Monogram issued the famous 'Speedee-Bilt' and 'Super Kits' which featured injection molded details and precarved wooden parts. Of these, the Speede-Bilt B-24 and B-17 were the finest. These kits are very rare today due to their relatively high original price of $4.95. This kit must be shipped insured.

Guillows Spitfire - 16 inch Wingspan Rubber Powered Balsa Wood Kit, 504

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

$26

Still factory sealed. From the 1960s. One of a very popular 16.5 inch wingspan series of World War 2 stick and tissue flying kits. Includes die cut balsa parts, vacuform nose, wheels, plastic propeller, hardware, vacuform canopy, colored tissue, insignia and full size plans with detailed building instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Fador 1908 Baker Electric, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$69

Rare kit dated August of 1950. Very well detailed for that time. Features mainly die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels and lanterns. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Has excellent, large full-size fold-out plans with numerous elevations, a great many detail drawings and extensive instructions. The kit has never been started. The small parts are either still in the internal factory sealed bag or inventoried complete and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. We think of electric cars of new; nothing could be further from the truth. From 1900 to 1915 at least 25 well-known electric car manufactures advertised vehicles which '...were clean, quite, stylish and easy to operate - the only car for a lady.' And how true this was! Early automobiles were notoriously noisy with dirty exhaust and the constant requirement to handle smelly gasoline by hand. The Baker Electric was one of the longer ranged models - when all six batteries were fully charge it could travel about 75 miles - acceptable even today for a commute. The wheelbase was 80 inches and it had a convertible top that could be lowered or raised. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars, like Hudson Miniatures. The full name was Fador Mfg. Company and the address was 501E. Clinton St., Elmira, NY. It appears that Hudson beat Fador to the scene by a year; Hudson's spectacular product line growth starting in 1948 may have influenced Fador in the choice of subject and scale. Fador called the line 'Smallersters' and the design of the kits is very similar. Fortunately, Fador chose completely different vehicles. Because of their great decisions, these are often the only model kits ever made of these historical cars. There is no record of Fador making any plastic kits; the introduction and overwhelming popularity of the Highway Pioneers and the other kits that quickly followed may have driven them out of the market as it did many other wood manufactures.

Fador 1909 EMF Single Seater / EMF Touring / EMF Roadster - 3 in 1 - Builds Your Choice Of Three, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$79

Rare kit from about 1949. Very unique in that it may well be the first use of the term '3 in 1' when referred to a model kit. Big scale model is highly detailed for that time and measures 8.75 inches long when assembled. Includes parts and instructions for building one of the three versions listed. Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels, grill/radiator, steering wheel, headlights, lanterns and horn. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Includes superb, large full-size plans with four elevation drawings, a great many detail drawings, templates and even the correct tufting pattern for the seats! Extensive text instructions are furnished also and there is even a detachable tonneau and detailed painting instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. The EMF 30 was produced by the EMF company which stood for Everett, Metzger and Flanders - the three owners. But in the early days it was jokingly referred to as 'The Every Morning Fix It" and "Every Mechanical Failure." Each car came complete with a catalog numbering every single part, which made replacements easily obtainable. The engine was four cylinders and turned out a very respectable 30 horsepower. It had a 106 inch wheelbase and held 15 gallons. All cars were painted EMF Red and were a sight to behold. The EMF 30 price with standard equipment was $1250 and included acetylene headlights, generator, side oil lamps, tail lamps, lamp brackets, tube horn, tire repair kit and magneto. In 1949 the Fador line consisted of a 1909 Hupmobile Roadster, 1904 Cadillac Runabout, 1905 REO 4 Passenger Runabout and one kit that was "3 In 1' - it made one of the following: 1909 EMF Single Rear Seater, 1909 EMF Touring or EMF Roadster. The Baker Electric kit was introduced in 1950 and possibly others as well.
