Recent reissue of the classic 1960s kit featuring all laser cut balsa parts, scale plastic radial engine and cowl, plastic wheels and prop, a full set of decals, tissue covering, rubber motor, firewall, super detailed plans and more. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

NOTE: includes parts for land-based version only. This is the first issue dated 1966 with the best mold quality. It is part of the very famous line of 1/48 scale World War II action kits the Monogram issued all through the 1960s and even well into the 1970s. Finely molded and detailed for that time and feature, good cockpit and rear seat gunner detail, underwing bombs, elevating and rotating gun, pilot and gunner figures, five piece canopy that can be positioned closed or in several open configurations and choice of US Navy or Royal Navy decals. The kit has never been started. NOTE: inventoried complete with the 'Land Based' (landing gear' version only. All of the float version parts are missing. Includes instructions and decals for Pre-War Yellow Wing version or wartime variants. The Royal Navy aircraft were called Kingfisher I and 100 of them were delivered with both wheel and float gear. The US Navy aircraft represented by the decals is that of Lieutenant William F. Eadie from a Kingfisher squadron based in the Ellice Islands. He spotted and rescued Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker and his companions after they had been on a raft in the Pacific for 21 days and virtually given up for lost. Lt. Eadie moved the most injured into the radio compartment while Rickenbacker and the other crew member were lashed to the wings. Eadie figured that the aircraft could not fly, and luckily he met a PT boat and transfered the uninjured men to it.

Very highly detailed resin kit. Still internally sealed. Complete with decals and instructions. In 1950, Wright Air Development Center of the U.S.A.F. had worked with Curtiss and Hamilton to study the concept of new propeller which could approach supersonic speed to a piston-engine fighter. The engineers of the WADC needed a suitable airframe to test the concept, they selected most powerful Allison turboprop engine at the time, and chose to modify the Republic F-84F for this new role. The concept also interested U.S. Navy to join the evaluation for a high-speed jet fighter with low fuel consumption by low take-off speed from turboprop driven propellers. In 1952, two prototypes were ordered to Republic and were designated XF-84H. Its maiden flight was made in 1955. The performance was not outstanding as it never reached supersonic speed, but still became the fastest propeller-driven fighter. After proceeded with several flights, both the Air Force and Navy lose further interest in the research as the mid-flight refuel experiment for extending the range of pure-jet fighters was being successful.
