The aircraft was a success, as it was sturdy but had some poor flight characteristics due to the heavy Rolls Royce Kestrel powerplant. 34 total aircraft were ordered and the remainder flew 40 missions when the German invasion hit. The R-31 was the only Belgian design to see combat in WWII. Still sealed. Very high quality resin castings.

Execuform TIMM Aeromold N2T-1 Tutor, 1/72

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

The N2T-1 was a Navy/Marines basic trainer in the 1930s and was the worlds first 'plastic airplane'. The Nuyon patent process utilized cross-grain spruce and birch veneers impregnated with pheno-formalydehyde and vacuum baked to create complete airframe components. This was the 'Aeromold' process. 262 were built. In the south, termites were a problem and acrobatics were prohibited due to possible structural weakness. Still sealed.

Contrail Fairy Gordon Mk.I or Mk.II, 1/72

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

The Gordon was a two-man general purpose RAF Day bomber. Developed from the Fairey III series, the Gordon used a more powerful Armstrong Siddeley Panther radial instead of the in-line Napier Lion. Deliveries started in 1931 and production ran through 1934. The design was considered successful and 160 were build. Another 30 Mk. IIIs were converted to Gordons. The Gordon saw extensive use at home and overseas. Two home squadrons took part in the Abyssianian crisis of 1935 and made the flight to the Middle East. Parts for both aircraft are included in the kit, as well as decals. Complete and never started. Includes airfoil shaped strut stock and metal details parts.

Contrail Saunders-Roe S.36 Lerwick, 1/72

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

The Lerwick was a all metal flying boat powered by two Hercules engines. Initial versions had twin stabilizers and rudders. Designed for long patrols, she was armed with three powered turrets and a variety of weapons. The Lerwick was found to be aerodynamically unstable, even with the addition of a single large vertical fin. Because of this, it was not used much and only 21 were built. The PBY was found to be a much easier platform to fly, and the last Lerwick patrol was in 1943. Contains vac main parts with injection molded and metal detail parts. Still sealed.

Contrail A.V. Roe Manchester, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

The Manchester was an RAF bomber which entered service in November of 1940 with 207th Squadron. The design was sound but the Vulture engines were troublesome. Engine failures, fires and unserviceability made it unpopular with crews. AV Roe was quick to solve this problem and wasted no time in replacing the Vulture with the Merlin - creating the Manchester Mk III - the prototype Lancaster. Main vac airframe parts with clear parts and injection molded and metal details. Comes with full decals. Unstarted and complete.

Contrail Fairey Hendon, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

The Hendon was a RAF night bomber created in response to 1927 Air Ministry specs to replace the Virginia. The Hendon was a large twin engine monoplane of metal construction with fabric covering, making it the first all metal structure monoplane in the RAF. Fairey was no stranger to this type of aircraft, having already made several large monoplanes for record attempts. But the monoplane design was just too new for the minds in the Air Ministry and they opted for twin engine Heyford biplanes instead. 14 Hendons were built for the 38 Squadron. Vac kit with metal detail parts and full decals/instructions. Complete and never started.

Joe Ott Douglas Dauntless SBD 27 inch Wingspan Flying Model, 2705

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

The 1930s were the classic age of the stick and tissue balsa models, and the Joe Ott kits were one of the most famous. Loaded with deluxe features, the 'Flying Battle Plane' kits had large wingspans and the new 'Ott-O-Formers' to reduce building time and make 'better sturdier planes'. This kit is 100% complete and unstarted. The back of the box shows typical contents and special features of the kits.

Maintrack Short SB5 (SB-5), 1/72, PX-014

Vacuform Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed

Sold

This unique aircraft was ordered from Short by English Electric to resolve a dispute between EE and The RAE as to the optimum configuration for the eventual legendary Lighting Interceptor. The SB5 had three wing sweep angles (69, 60 and 50) and the horizontal stabilizer could be mount below the fuselage or as a 'T' tail. Landing gear was fixed, as the debate was only over low speed handling. The design proved that EE was correct, and the Lighting was built as designed. Very high quality vac kit Highly detailed moldings with full cockpit and fine recessed details, full decals and metal seat, struts, wheels and other parts. Still sealed.
