This unique aircraft was ordered from Short by English Electric to resolve a dispute between EE and The RAE as to the optimum configuration for the eventual legendary Lighting Interceptor. The SB5 had three wing sweep angles (69, 60 and 50) and the horizontal stabilizer could be mount below the fuselage or as a 'T' tail. Landing gear was fixed, as the debate was only over low speed handling. The design proved that EE was correct, and the Lighting was built as designed. Kit is of Type 529 VX136 or VX133. Initially designed as an undercarriage-less aircraft for use from the 'flexible deck' aircraft carrier being though of at the time. Interest was quickly lost in the flexible deck and the Admiralty ask for real landing gear. This was easily incorporated into the design, and the 508 was born. The aircraft has folding wings, an offset nosewheel, two very early 'Avon' engines and a unique variable incidence tail. Performance was good, and the 3rd prototype was given swept wings...which gave birth to the Scimitar fighter. Very high quality vac kit. Features excellent moldings, full decals for both airplanes and many metal details. Never started and complete.

The SC1 was Great Britains first vertical take off and landing aircraft. The design has four additional engines just for takeoff and landing. The aircraft did achieve vertical take off and transition to regular flight, but proved to be quite a handful. Two were built and continued to fly until 1967, when the appearance of the HS P.1127 (Harrier Prototype) caused them to be obsolete. Highly detailed resin kit with metal details and full decals. Never started and complete.
