Drone Engineering Secret Weapon - Spectacular Disel Flyer - 38 Inch Wingspan Super Stunt Control Line Model Designed For Diesel Engine

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair-

$125

Very rare and from 1948. This is a completely prefabricated, balsa and hardwood super-stunt control line design by Leon Shulman. At that time it was capable of doing every possible maneuver that control line models could perform and some that could not be done, such as a loop and vertical 8's. It can literally be built in a few hours and features factory cut and carved, high-quality wooden parts, shaped and hollowed leading edges, tapered training edges, hardware, fully formed wire landing gear (or to be used as a take-off trolley that remained on the runway to improve performance), covering tissue and more. The full size plans include heavily illustrated step-by-step assembly as well as complete flying tips from the famous designer. NOTE: this kit has 'excellent' quality sub assembly as follows: bellcrank to elevator; upper & lower fuselage and hardwood reinforcements assembled. Horizontal stabilizer and elevator are very neatly sanded. There is no other assembly. The model has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork included. Please note that the covering tissue has bug damage. In 1948 Drone Diesel also produced and marketed the 'Dronette' Sport Flyer & Stunt Trainer and the 'Hot-Rock,' a National Open Stunt Champion in 1947. These model, with the 'Secret Weapon,' promoted 'Diesel At Its Best,' the Drone Diesel Engine with a Class B displacement of .297, bore of 21/32 and Stroke of 7/8". The compression ratio was whopping 18 to 1. A speed control and variable compression head were also available.

Revell Destroyer USS The Sullivans - Early Fletcher Class DD-537 - Pre 'S' Issue, 1/301, H305-129

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

$79

1954 Pre-'S' release and among Revell's very earliest ship models. This issue is the 'all gun' version of the Fletcher with the maximum main armament; Revell soon modified the molds to represent the later ships of the class. This is an excellent full hull model for that time and features separately molded superstructure, main, 40mm and 20mm guns, ships boats, gun directors, search lights and more. The kit has never been started. Inventoried and it is 100% complete with all parts, color flag sheet, decals and instructions.

UPC M-40 155mm Self-Propelled Gun - (ex Adams), 1/40, 2151-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$65

Universal Powermaster reissue of the 1957 Adams 'Action Model' that is amazingly well detailed for that time. Features rotating, elevating and recoiling gun, working track and hatches, hinged platform that opens and closes, working extension ramp, crew and much more. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bag and includes decals and instructions. This kit has a fascinating history. After Adams became disillusioned with plastic model kit production (perhaps partially due to Revell's founder), they sold most if not all of the molds to Athearn, the famous craftsman train kit manufacturer. Athearn reissued many of the kits under the SNAP name, which caused a great deal of confusion. Many thought they were snap-together kits; they couldn't have been more wrong. Athearn did a simple modification to each mold; where it would say ADAMS (usually on a part or area that did not show), they machined that away and put the SNAP logo. At some point Athearn stopped production and eventually sold the molds. However, during this time in the 1960s, UPC decided to reissue many of these kits. Evidently Athearn did the molding or a job shop did, while UPC produced their own boxes, instructions and decals. UPC stood for Universal Powermaster Corporation which was based out of New York City, NY. UPC did not cut their own molds, but bought kits already molded from other manufacturers (many in Japan) and re-boxed the kits in the USA. Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

Frog Douglas B-26B Invader, 1/122, 385P

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$60

From about 1957. Rare first logo Frog kit in a small scale. Molded in silver and clear with all recessed panel lines, full decals and correct early display stand. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Blue, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
