Monogram Curtiss P-40B Tiger Shark Test Shot - Bagged, 1/72, PA96

Plastic Model Kit

$36

This kit came from the collection of one of Monogram's finest and talented Chief Designers, the man who created the original B-52 kit, B-17, B-24J, P-36A, P-39 Airacobra, P-61 Black Widow, DH Mosquito, at least one if not all of the 1/8 scale Ford cars, A-1E Skyraider and numerous other famous kits. In his collection were boxes (usually Four-Star armor that had been damaged on the box-assembly machine) labeled 'TEST SHOTS' and some with his name on it. After designing the model, he was still responsible for the entire program, at least up to the point of mass production. Test Shots were made near the end of the design process for the Chief Designer of that kit to inspect; if something was wrong, he ordered changed. If not, he would clear the kit for production. Test Shots were usually made in whatever plastic was loaded into the silo at the time and in some cases reground plastic (from defects) was even used. This is one of those kits. Ever notice that all Monogram P-40s were molded in olive-drab plastic? Well, not in this case! This test shot is molded with most of the parts in a chocolate brown plastic, some in silver and the few remaining ones in green and clear plastic. This is a pre-first issue. It has never been started. The model is inventoried with all parts and instruction present. The Four Star issue instructions are mint and may have come with the test shot for his approval or they may have been added later. I have included them because they were in the same 'TEST SHOT' box as the kit. As a note, the test shots of the Monogram Four Star Helldiver were molded in silver and clear - clear dive brakes and many other clear parts! Some test shots of the Hawker Hurricane were molded in gloss gray with a little bit of white added so the designer could see exactly how the plastic moved into and filled the cavities.

Pyro 1933 Bugatti Model 59 Grand Prix Racer Car, 1/32, C303-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$37

1960s Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. The model includes brilliant blue injection molded parts, clear parts, detailed chassis, complete engine, removable hood and full interior. Molded in a beautiful light aqua and clear plastic. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Please note the bug damage to the box litho, hence the 'good-' grade.

late 1950s Cellovision issue with great Ray Gaedke artwork. This XK 120 is molded in light blue and features a one-piece body (excellent for slot car conversion), windshield, chassis/underpan, steering wheel and four wheels/tires. While a simple kit, it does have very good interior and realistic lines. Never started. The actual car has been inventoried with all plastic parts and instructions present. NOTE: missing decals. The Cellovision window is intact and in 'very good' condition and the trading card is also 'very good.' The scale is not given; I have approximated it as 1/32. The actual model is 5.125 inches long.

Features all parts for the three versions, detailed engine and compartment, opening hood, full interior, molded underside detail and more. Molded in ivory, clear, red-tinted clear, chrome plate and with rubber tires and metal axles. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: there are very small and light tire burns on the left front fender; very easy to fix since they are in a perfectly smooth area and so slight. There are also burns on the optional rally underpans, one seat (near the edges) and the edges of two ivory plastic rims (not bad, do not interfere with assembly). Instructions are 'very good.' The decals have minor bug damage restricted to the backing paper only and the actual transfers have no damage.

Aurora AT-6 Texan, 1/48, 70-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$44

Hardbox release dated 1960. This is the harder-to-find issue because it has desirable 'Famous Fighters' in the logo border. The one without 'Famous Fighters' is much more common. This was a nice kit for the time featuring 'good' cockpit detail, pilot and student figures, rotating prop and USAF decals. Molded in silver and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please note that the box is only ranked 'good' because there is light brown age spotting on the box top; you can see it best against the yellow areas.

Includes a detailed 'battle-ground' base. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$65

Rare 1957 original 'S' issue with fantastic artwork. Very nicely detailed model includes drop tanks, strap on boosters, base, launcher and crew of two. Molded in the correct gloss red. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Please NOTE that the box displays 'Good' or slightly better but is graded 'Fair' because it has two closed holes near the back of the boosters and a long closed split on the box top running from the lower far left side to the end of the blue logo background on the lower right. There decals are in amazing 'excellent+' condition. The instructions are fine other than the small, closed holes in the instructions from whatever punched the holes in the box.

Early 1960s release with classic box art by Bill Campbell. If you look closely, Bill painted one of Hawk's founders, Richard (Dick) Mates in the cockpit of the nearest fighter. This is a very nicely molded model with excellent fit and all recessed panel lines. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Thanks to Jean-Claude who told me that the boxart shows a standard F-84F but in reality the model inside is of prototype YF-96A, (aka YF-84F), s/n 49-2430. this aircraft was later modified to become the YRF-84F parasite fighter in combination with GRB-36F.It is on display at the USAF Museum, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.
