MAI Bell X-14 Model 68 - Vertical Takeoff And Landing X-Plane, 1/72, 013

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Limited issue, #21 of the run. As will all MAI kits, this one has exceptional mold quality. All parts are cast in high definition resin and the windshield is clear. Never started. Factory sealed bag with instructions. MAI did not furnish decals with this kit, but they did include an extensive markings and paint guide that covers the life of the aircraft. Luckily, the aircraft's markings were standard. The Bell X-14 proved to be the longest lasting of all American X-Plane programs. The X-14 became the first aircraft to fly with a thrust diversion system for vertical life on February 17, 1957. The first successful transition from hover to forward flight occured on May 24, 1958. The X-14 had a custom built fuselage but was mated to the wings, landing gear and ailerons of a Beechcraft 35 Bonanza and the entire tail section of a T-34A Mentor. The success of the thrust system on the X-14 led to it's use in the Hawker-Siddeley Harrier jump-jet.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

2006 reissue. Very large kit of the over-sized Luftwaffe transport that was originally designed as a glider for Sealion, the invasion of Great Britain. The glider was to be towed by a He-111Z tug. Life-Like Gouda Dutch Man-O-War - 17th Century (ex-Pyro), 09212

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

From original Pyro molds cut in the late 1960s. Large scale - measures about 14 inches long when assembled. Very nicely molded and detailed kit for it's time. Features well over 250 parts, individually molded cannon, cradles and cannon hull hatches, separately molded fife rails with belaying pins, pre-molded rat lines, billowing sails, blocks and two photos for use in rigging the ship. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. NOTE: instructions are photocopies from the Pyro kit. Any kit of a Dutch 17th Century Man-o-War is rare - this may be the only injection molded kit ever made of this famous subject. The Gouda fought in the Anglo-Dutch Wars. She was built about 1636 and was commanded by Jan Egbertsz Ooms. The Gouda and other ships from Witte de With's fleet were lost in a storm in early November 1653. Pyro did not cut molds based on popularity, but usually by the historical significance of the subject. This was not a good business practice, but today's collectors and builders are grateful to have kits of these subjects.

Pyro Saint Louis - French Man-O-War, B210-400

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare Pyro kit from the late 1960s. Large scale - measures about 14 inches long when assembled. Very nicely molded and detailed. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. In 1642 when Richelieu came to power in France, the country did not have a single ship that could compare with the English and Dutch Men-O-War. To rectify this, Richelieu purchased a few ships from Holland. His engineers studied these then built the Saint Louis. The ship had two gun decks and about 60 guns. She was rigged with a modern spiritsail, topsail and mizzen topsail. Pyro did not cut molds based on popularity, but usually by the historical significance of the subject. This was not a good injection-molded model business practice, but many collectors and builders are grateful today for these kits.
