Lindberg Lockheed F-80C (P-80) Shooting Star, 1/48, 500-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$45

From original O-lin molds. 1950 kit with Ray Gaedke hardbox artwork. Never started. NOTE: missing pilot seat. Otherwise inventoried complete with all other parts, decals and instructions. It is true that earlier versions of this kit did not come with a seat and/or pilot - at one point it was not even shown on the instructions. The first seat was a simple horizontal 'plank. I have seen so many of these with no seat at all that I feel these may be old O-Lin kits that Lindberg wished to use up, so he put them in new Lindberg boxes with new instructions. Paul Lindberg got his start in 1930s model aviation by designing, building and flying stick and tissue aircraft. His plans appeared in Popular Aviation magazine and he soon made a name for himself. When injection molding showed the way to increased kit sales in the late 1940s/early 1950s, he quickly teamed up with Mr. Olsen to create 'O-lin' models. Ray Gaedke was one the the early artists for O-lin, and he help pioneer dramatic and colorful box artwork. In the early 1950s Paul Lindberg was running the company and had the logo changed to his name. The first logo was circular, with 'Lindberg' in middle and 'Products' 'Incorporated' arched across the top and bottom. The second logo is the 'Yellow Square' that is on this kit. Ray Gadke continued his bold and colorful artwork for Lindberg and did this F-80C boxart as well.

Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. Lindberg Junkers Ju-87B Stuka, 1/48, 524-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

$55

Late 1950s hardbox issue with Ray Gaedke box artwork. Please note that this is an early issue with the white circle on the rudder for the swastika. The swastika is not present on the box artwork. However, the decals had the swastika and the factory partially cut them out of the sheet. As a historical note, this kit was originally issued with the swastika on the box art and decals - Lindberg quickly recognized that this was poor publicity in the USA at that time and more importantly that the kit could not be sold in Europe. The second issue had the box art modified to remove the swastika but not the white circle and the offending markings were cut from the decal sheet. The third issue had the white circle removed from the box art and the decal sheet was redesigned to exclude it also. Molded in correct gloss medium green and clear, with the futuristic Lindberg 'V' shaped clear stand. For it's time, this was an excellent kit with fine panel and rivet detail. Features crew of two and seats, separately molded rudder and flap/ailerons, four small wing load bombs and a center bomb with 'swing arm' so that it would clear the prop in a dive. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.
