Maircraft V-1 Robot Bomb, 1/48

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

From about 1944/45. Solid wood kit featuring a 3D cut fuselage, 2D cut wings, engine block, other wood as required and superb plans with step-by-step building instructions. Even includes a cut-away of the actual V-1. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work.

Pyro Monitor and Merrimac Ironclads - American Civil War, B257-200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

From original Pyro molds. Great hardbox artwork by AJ Rudisill from the late 50s or early 1960s. The two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862. The Monitor is 10 inches long and the Merrimac is 11 inches long when built. Both are full hull models and include display stands. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Although dated, these kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg issues of the same ships.
