Very rare kit dated 1958. The superb box art was painted by Monaghan, who did all of the Aurora Indy 500 winners. This kit is from Best molds. Aurora purchased these molds just for the Indianapolis 500 Winners and made only one issue. Molded in gloss white plastic with real rubber tires, spoked wheels and includes a crew of two and some interior detail. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions as well as the original factory tissue packing paper. The box is only graded 'good+' because of the light stain at the left and general wear as shown. The 'Murphy Special', winner of the Indy 500 in 1922, was a Duesenburg chassis and a Harry Miller engine of 183 CID. It was driven by the great racer Jimmy Murphy.

Aurora 1920 Monroe Special Indianapolis 500 Winner - (ex Best), 1/30, 521-69

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$129

Very rare kit dated 1958. The superb box art was painted by Monaghan, who did all of the Aurora Indy 500 winners. This kit is from Best molds. Aurora purchased these molds just for the Indianapolis 500 Winners and made only one issue. Molded in a beautiful gloss blue with real rubber tires, spoke wheels and includes a crew of two and some interior detail. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Even the original factory tissue packing paper is present. Please note that the box displays better than the 'good' grade but is rated as such because the upper long side has numerous small, dark spots. These spots are on the outside of the tray (lower box) also. Decals and instructions are only 'good' quality. This famous car is directly tied to one of racings greatest names, Louis Chevrolet. Louis and his brother He and his brother Arthur came to American in about 1905 and immediately began racing; Louis alone won 10 National Championship races between 1909 and 1919. Louis and Arthur joined forces with William Crapo 'Billy' Durant to form the Chevrolet Car Company in 1911. However, few people got along with Durant and the Chevrolet brothers were no exception. By 1915 they had sold their stock and moved on to Indianapolis. They immediately went back into racing and built their own cars. However, they were not allowed to use the Chevrolet name. The unofficial Chevrolet team was the first to achieve consecutive Indianapolis 500 wins. The first is this kit, the 1920 Monroe Special driven by younger brother Gaston Chevrolet and in 1921 in a Frontenac Special driven by Tommy Milton.

OldModelKits SS Normandie Ocean Liner - 1935, 1/350

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

$850

Finally! A museum-quality 1/350 scale model kit of the SS Normandie - The World's Most Beautiful Ocean Liner. This nine-year project is a 100% new kit. Seven of those years were spent accurately modeling the ship from scratch in TurboCAD. All design work was done in CAD by Ken Friend, a master modeler and engineer who specialized in CAD/CAM/CAE Systems Management and Implementation. This limited-run kit represents the Normandie from her 1935 maiden voyage to New York and has over 1,000 individual parts. The hull and larger parts are pressure-cast resin from de-aired molds. There is one very large photoetched brass sheet for railings, ladders & fine details, a set of ultra-high resolution 3D printed davits, three sheets of laser-cut, real wood printed decking, decals, flag sheet and a DVD with detailed, highly illustrated instructions including painting guide, step-by-step rigging instructions and research material. This is a previously owned kit; I sold this model years back and then purchased the buyers entire estate. The kit has never been started. This model has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions included. NOTE: this kit must be shipped insured.

Ideal Aeroplane & Supply Coast Guard Cutter - 12 Inch Long Wooden Model With Moulded Hull

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$64

Rare ship model from 1930/1940s that contains Ideal's revolutionary 'Premolded Hull.' Since carving the hull was by far the most difficult part of early ship modeling, Ideal created a thick-walled, completely formed, hollow hull made from a wood composite. Never started. Inside, the kit is exactly as it left the factory which means that all the parts are still 'factory tissue sealed.' As was the custom back then, workers would assembly the parts for a kit and wrap them in tissue paper in a unique way that ensured that all the parts would be 'sealed' and held in place. Whoever buys this kit will see the contents for the first time since it was packed at Ideal Aeroplane & Supply in New York well over 90 years ago. Ideal Aeroplane & Supply was one of the earliest aircraft model makers in the USA, marketing their first kit in 1911 and running a well-known storefront that sold materials as well as kits for early aeromodelers. What is less known is that they had a very large line of ship kits also. They ranged from one foot to several feet long and covered unique and popular civil subjects as well as warships and submarines of the period. The company was very innovative in introducing the Moulded Hull which cut assembly time by more than half by eliminating all hull carving, shaping and sanding. The builder could use it right out-of-the-box and immediately add the deck, superstructure, fittings and prime or paint. Ideal was also known for their excellent, full size multi-view plans that includes many assembly notes, rigging diagrams, tips, additional detail drawings and much more. Often there was even a detailed painting guide.
