Hudson Miniatures 1903 Rambler Old Timers, 1/16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features plastic wheels & lights, a large number of wooden parts cut/turned to shape and occasionally metal parts and cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car. This kit has never been started. Inventoried complete with all parts, plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Revell Hawaiian Pilot C3 Freighter 'S' Kit, 1/400, H315-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Original issue from 1955 with beautiful hardbox artwork by Scott Eidon. This is a well detailed kit for that time and an all-time favorite among collectors and builders. Inside, the kit is as new. It has never been started and all small parts are still sealed in the small factory bag. All larger parts are inventoried complete and the kit includes the instructions, decals and flag sheet. I believe that the Matson Line Hawaiian Pilot originally started life as the Navy USS Burleigh C-3 Transport. After the was she became the Oceanic lines SS Sonoma (#2). On July 14, 1953, Hawaiian Pilot collided with SS Jacob Luckenbach (another C-3 freighter, ex-Sea Robin), off San Francisco. Luckenbach sank in 30 minutes; the crew was safely transferred to Hawaiian Pilot and there was no loss of life.

Comet Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, 1/88, PL30-39

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare 1950s second issue. Still includes a factory-sealed tube of Comet cement, which amazing enough is still good. The kit features recessed panel detail, clear canopy, detailed engine front and the Comet 'teardrop' shaped display stand. NOTE: this kit is a builder because it has been started. It has 'excellent' to 'professional' quality subassembly as described: fuselage halves assembled; wing halves assembled (but not glued to the fuselage). There is no other assembly. Inventoried and all parts, decals and instructions are present. NOTE: some of the small gun barrels are broken off the wings and missing; they are easy to make with pulled sprue or stock plastic. In the 1950s Comet made a beautiful line of small scale aircraft and missile models with colorful boxes. When Comet went out of business, these molds saw action for years with Aurora who reissued some (but not all) of them.

O-lin Pioneer Locomotive - Chicago & Northwestern - HO Scale, 1/87, 100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

This is a very rare kit for the advanced collector. It has a 'very good++' box and inside it is never started and complete. This model has a fascinating history. In the 1930s, Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen (hence the 'O-Lin' name produced a line of balsa wood flying aircraft models. However, immediately after WWII, O-Lin was busy producing some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the United States. Since it has always appeared the O-Lin's kit numbers were in the order of introduction of the kits, This Locomotive model is kit number 100 and may predate even the O-Lin PT-17, which is from the original Varney molds (and the first injection molded aircraft model in the USA. Although we do not have verification of this, it is completely possible as the HO Scale Modeling revolution had already occurred in the 1930s and Craftsman-Style kits were all the rage. This model is actually a multi-media kit and features main structural parts and spoked & solid wheels in black injection molded plastic, brass drive shafts inside red plastic 'centering' rods, bright steel drive wheels (that go around the spoked and solid wheels) and other metal parts as well. Includes decals and illustrated &text instructions with a painting guide. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is as it left the factory. All of the metal parts and the decals are still in the factory-sealed 'krinkle' bag. The injection molded parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete. Decals and instructions are both in 'excellent+' condition.
