A superb model kit. Revell's early ships were remarkably well molded and detailed and this Constitution is no exception. Features full hull with fine planking and copper sheathing detail (down to tiny rivets on the copper plates), full deck fittings, preformed ratlines, rigging material and full rigging instructions. Most likely the 5th issue of this kit by the light green background and 300 price extension. The box artwork is from the "S" issue and is dated 1956, but the side panels now show the early issues of the Thermopylae, early (incorrect) SSBN Abraham Lincoln and several Picture Fleet ships, dating it in about 1960 or 1961. Never started. The tan parts are still factory sealed. The black parts have been inventoried complete. With flag sheet and instructions as well as two very colorful trading cards for the Carrier Coral Sea and and F9F Cougar.
Revell HMS Campbeltown (USS Buchanan) Destroyer, 1/240, H450

1971 issue. Large scale and highly detailed kit of the historic four-pipe destroyer. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Originally the USS Buchanan Four-Piper, she was traded in the famous Lend-Lease program for the use of British bases. On March 8, 1942, the Campbeltown sailed up the Loire River. Her mission was to destroy the Normandie Drydock, a possible haven for the Tirpitz which was holed up on Norway at this time. The Campbeltown was disguised as a German warship and the bow was packed with 8500 lbs of high explosive depth charges. Under a RAF diversion, Campbeltown fought her way up the river and rammed the dock doors at full speed. Charges at the stern sank the back of the ship and she was wedged in the dock. During a German inspection 8 hours later, the charges went off, scattering parts of the ship up to one mile away. The dock was rendered useless to the Tirpitz, who now had to stay in Norway.

In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Likely the third issue of the only larger scale Auburn kit in injection molded plastic. The '35 Auburn weighed 4200 lbs. and was one of the few cars of that time to have hydraulic brakes. Power came from a 150hp (@4000) supercharged engine with three inch exhaust pipes that easily sped the car to over 100 mph. Ab Jenkins set a record with a stock issue 851 at Bonneville Salt Flats in July of 1935, and became the first one to pilot a stock car for over 12 hours at an average of over 100 mph. Molded in red and includes a fully positionable female driver molded in peach plastic. Features complete engine, hinging/opening hood and 'good' interior detail. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. This is a rather simple kit but I have seen it look excellent built up if you are willing to take the time to detail it.
