Berkeley Sinbad 40 - 40 Inch Wingspan Towline Launched Glider

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Excellent kit dated 1946 on the plans and is from the older West Hempstead NY address. Part of the famous 'Sinbad' series tow-line gliders from Berkeley, this is most likely a mid 1950s issue. Includes the patented 'Spiral/Tow Control' rudder system. Big 40 inch wingspan - idea for RC. Features all die cut parts, full size plans and silk-span covering. The model has not been started. NOTE: all parts have been punched out neatly by an adult. A complete inventory was done and it is missing R2 and 1 tiny gusset - both are easily made and represented full size on the plans. Otherwise complete with all other parts, clear windshield material, balsa blocks, covering material and excellent plans/instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Aurora Cessna 310, 1/62, 283-50

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

1963 issue from ex-Comet molds. Neatly molded with all recessed panel lines, clear side and front windows, tip tanks, rotating propellers, display stand and full pinstripe decals. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. The box has damage/creases as shown, especially on the left top side. Aurora had started a line of inexpensive 29 cent kits in about 1957. The line was a success, and it was expanded. The line grew again when Aurora purchased the Comet molds, as most of Comet's line was very small scale kits, many of them civil aircraft like this one. It appears that Aurora was encouraged by the sale of the ex-Comet civil aircraft, as it expanded the line with it's own molds in the early 1960s.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Fair++

Complete injection molded kit in two colors with rubber wheels, full decals for US Mail-Colorado Airways or Pacific Air Transport Air Mail, instructions and painting guide. The M-1 holds two very special places in American Aviation History. First, it is the first production monoplane and played a key roll in early airmail. In the 1920s, Government contracts for flying airmail on a $/mile basis was about the only thing keeping commercial aviation alive and growing. In 1926, the M-1 was the first aircraft to fly with PAT, Pacific Air Transport. PAT linked Seattle to LA with mail contracts. The other unique item is that this was the Ryan NYPs (Lindbergh's aircraft) father. When Lindy visited Ryan in 1927, he flew the M-1. He requested an airplane that was similar but larger - thus the NYP was born and aviation history was made.

Aurora SE-5 British Scout Screwdriver Kit, 1/19, 399

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Rare. 1973 issue with colorful John Steel artwork. Very large 1/19 scale kit. Aurora originally designed these molds for gas-powered U-Control aircraft. Early market experience, however, showed Aurora that liability was higher with gas powered aircraft and customer returns were common. Aurora quickly discontinued gas production and came up with an idea to recoup the tooling costs - sell the kits as giant scale screw-together static model aircraft. Luckily the kits sold well for Aurora and modelers ended with some of the largest scale injection molded kits ever produced. Never started. Inside, the kit is exactly as it left the factory. The black parts, metal parts and screws are still in the factory sealed bags. The dark olive drab green parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete with decals and instructions.
