Lindberg Monitor and Merrimac with Diorama Seascape Base, 77257

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG

Sold

Still factory sealed but there is a moderate crush at the upper left. Very nice package with both kits and a plastic seascape battle display base. Merrimac measures just shy of 13 inches long and the Monitor measures 8.25 inches long. These are the two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Micro Models The 1940 Playboy Sr - 38 inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft (ex-Cleveland) - (later Midway Model Company), 2/5, F112

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

This is an authentic reproduction of this classic design and is just over half the original size. It features full size plans, quality printwood parts, spare and strip stock, plywood motor mount, two colors of covering tissue and excellent full size plans. Never started and complete. A great gas model designed to climb fast and high then 'Sniff for Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Flying model aircraft predated powered flight; however, balsa wood and printwood were not introduced until the early 1930s and the hobby took off, as well as the hunt for thermals. Gas flight began in the early 1930s, and powered models (most all driven by Brown engines) took home so many awards that they were forever separated in competition from rubber powered models. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under power, but then glide sufficiently - all in a stable fashion and without any operator inputs once the airplane took off. Micro Models originally reissued many of the gas free-flight classics. The line was taken over by Midway Model Company around the early 1980s.

It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This is reissue of one of Aurora's first two kits (F-90 and F9F) which were copies of the Hawk molds.

Plastic kits were not the primary business, but they established quite a line of them before discontinuing production in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Many molds moved to Kader, also in Hong Kong, who reissued the line. Many molds eventually found their way to the USA either through ATP (who purchased the excess kit stock when Kader sold out) or IM.

Lawrence W Brown Aircraft Co Miss Los Angeles Racing Aircraft - 19.25 Inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft, 1/12, 1

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Very, very rare from 1934. There is no public record of this model ever trading hands and no one to date has heard of it. Lawrence Brown founded the Brown Aircraft Factory in California in 1931. In 1934 Brown built his B-2 racer, dubbed Miss Los Angeles. This was a very successful racer. Miss Los Angeles was introduced at the 1934 National Air races. The ship was painted in an attention-grabbing gloss scarlet paint with lettering and accents in gold leaf. Pilot Roy Minor flew her in the first three-race Greve Trophy competition and Miss Los Angeles, won first place in speed with 213.257 mph. She next raced for the Thompson Trophy as the only new competitor that year, winning second place. Mr. Brown was justifiably proud of his creation, so he founded the "Model Plane Division" of Brown Aircraft Company with one kit - you guessed it - Miss Los Angeles. That is this kit. NOTE: the kit is not complete. It does contain many important and unique parts, so please read carefully. What it does include are the following original parts: four pages of detailed, typed instructions, excellent full-size plans which show full size patterns for all fuselage bulkheads, full size patterns for the fuselage keel and sides, full size wheel pants, struts and much more, two sheets of printwood (printed in red) including wheel pants (bread and butter style construction), wing ribs and numerous other parts (one sheet of printwood is missing), stripwood and spars, stock wire and the original factory accessory envelope containing a glass vial with a cork stopper of "Brown Special Rubber Lubricant" (still good!), rigging thread, a type of silver/argent powder for realistic finishing, fully formed wheels, metal hardware and a glass vial of "Brown Special Lacquer Dope." Anything that is not listed here is missing.

This model was designed to climb very rapidly to altitude then go 'Sniffing For Thermals', the honored pastime of a generation of model enthusiasts. Design of gas models was tricky since RC (radio control) models could not yet be applied to the mass market; so a gas model had to not only fly and climb under high power and torque, but then glide sufficiently - all in a stable fashion and without any operator inputs once the airplane took off.
