Hudson Miniatures 1911 Maxwell Lil Old Timers - Quickie Kit, 1/32

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Rare. Never started and all parts are still in the factory sealed bag; includes instructions. These kits have a very interesting history. When the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' burst upon the hobby scene in 1951, they started a hobby revolution. Plastic model kits were not new in 1951, but successful mass marketing of plastic kits was new. The sensation swept the country, and Gowland & Revell could not make the kits fast enough. The fact that the public was buying these models shocked the successful hobby establishment. One such manufacture was Hudson Miniatures. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to carve and finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels) to the series but did not consider a completely plastic kit. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. As you would expect from Hudson, this is a nice kit with excellent moldings and detail for the time.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Very rare, one and only issued dated 1960. When Monogram invested in the tooling for the 18 aircraft "Air Power" set, the sales did not meet expectations. In order to increase revenue from the molds, Monogram issued three separate kits- the "Refueling Group," "Bomber Group" and "Fighter Group" in the "Forty Niner" series with the Tu-16 Badger, F-101 and P-40. These kits used airplanes from the Air Power set with special unique blue-molded stands and unique decal and instructions. The two aircraft are well molded with recessed panel line detail. Decals and instructions are both in 'excellent++' condition. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

Advanced Molding Corp Cunningham Chamption Sports Car - (pre-Aurora), 1/32, 20

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Very rare and for the advanced collector of early plastic models. Even rarer in this condition; this is from old store stock that was recently discovered and has never been in public hands. Advanced Molding issued 7 pioneering plastic car kits in 1954. But in 1955, Aurora purchased the molds then released them (the first in '55) under the Aurora name and artwork. They became famous under the Aurora name but virtually unknown under the original Advanced label because they were issued for a year or less. Advanced cleverly advertised all 7 kits on each box - the box top shows the kit inside, and the long side panels show 3 on each side. The 7 were the Cunningham, MG, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari Sportster, Corvette and Ferrari 342 America. This kit is the Cunningham, and is molded in white and is still sealed in the original factory krinkle clear plastic bag. I have not removed it from the box; it is exactly as it was shipped from the factory. With instructions in mint condition. The box is in extraordinary 'near mint' condition as well, with very light surface wear (as shown) as the only flaws. Advanced was located at 54 West 21st Street, New York 10, NY. After selling the cars, Advanced remained in the plastic model business with the Trailblazers HO kits from 1955 centered around the famous "General." It was issued as a locomotive and tender, or just the cars as set (passenger, mail combine, baggage, box car, flat car and caboose), or the cars each separately and the rare freight set which included the locomotive and tender, box car, flat car and caboose.
