The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Yak-36 was designer Alexander Yakovlev's creation. He was so impressed when he saw the British Short SC.1 perform at Farnborough that he built a test-bed similar to the Hawker Kestrel style. Three prototypes were built, numbered 36,37 and 38. The first flight was in 1966 and it was first displayed to the public at the Domodedovo Air Show in 1967. NATO intelligence was shocked at the appearance of a VTOL aircraft; however they need not have worried as the Yak-36 was unstable and unsuited for combat. However, the experience gained was important to the future development of the much more successful Yak-38 Forger.
