Older kit that is designed to operate in water. Measures 10 inches long when assembled. Features a metal weight to achieve neutral buoyancy, movable diving planes and a rubber band motor with winding handle. The kit is molded in dark brown/gray (above the waterline) and dark red (below the waterline). Includes a static display stand also. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes instructions. Ro-55 was a K6 Kaichu Type medium submarine. She was launched on April 23, 1944 and commanded by LtCdr Suwa. On January 27, 1945 Ro-55 departed Kure on her first war patrol west of Mindoro. On February 2, Suwa reports being attacked by aircraft. That was the last communication received. On February 7, RO-55 attempted to attack a convoy os hips headed for Leyte Gulf where she was probably sunk by USS THOMASON (DE 203). in a hedge-hog attack just before midnight.
