Academy Boeing B-17D 'Swoose' Flying Fortress, 1/72, 1683

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

$44

Still factory sealed. Beautiful model of the early Fortress 'Swoose' that lead an exciting career as a transport aircraft after serving as a bomber in the South Pacific. After service against the Japanese early in the war, she found her way to Australia and served as a navigational leader for other formations. Then General Brett made her his personal transport. The aircraft survived the war, the only 'D' Fortress to do so and is being restored in Dayton OH by the Air Force Museum. When I saw her there many years ago, you could still clearly see the original 'Swoose' painting on the fuselage. Well molded with all fine recessed panel lines. Features excellent cockpit detail, optional position landing gear, rotating props and wheels and more.

Comet Sparky - 32 Inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Flying Aircraft, 3408-149

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$59

Purchased new on Feb. 28, 1968. Rare large flying model. It is a reissue of the 1950s release. Features high quality print and strip balsa wood, a beautiful, large carved balsa prop that needs final sanding to shape, fully formed wheels, thrust button, metal and wood stock as required, tissue, and excellent full size plans with instructions. Never started and complete. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

Guillows De Havilland DH-80A Puss Moth - 24 inch Wingspan RC/CL/Rubber Powered Kit, 306

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$44

From the 1960s. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern servos and receivers. A very nice kit featuring die cut balsa parts, die-cut plywood firewall, completely finished wheels, plastic propeller, vacuform nose, rubber motor, hardware, clear window material, very large decal sheet, colored tissue and excellent full size plans. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

Top Flite DC-3 Gold Edition - 82.5 Inch Wingspan RC Aircraft - Eastern or C-47 Markings, 1/14, TOPA0500

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$179

Very large RC 1/14 Sport Scale Airplane. The Golden Era of Aviation Eastern Air Lines replica is IMAA Legal with a fully-sheeted fuselage and wingspan of 82.5". The original airplane was designed for commercial passenger travel, and some still fly today. This is a great introduction into building and flying a scale twin-engined kit. Features excellent flying characteristics; because of the engine angle and modified aerodynamics, this kit flies extremely well, even on one engine. (Most models of the DC-3 will go inverted and crash.) The kit is primarily wood and precision-formed ABS (tail cone, engine nacelles, wing fairings, and cockpit top). An interlocking fuselage frame builds flat on the plans and the large round fuselage requires very little carving or shaping. Can be built with split-flaps and the scale aerodynamic "Balance Tab" rudder which uses the air deflection to help turn the plane. Includes Eastern Air Lines and Optional Military C-47 decals. The kit has never been started and is factory new inside. All small parts are still factory sealed. All other parts are still in the factory rubber band bundles and have been inventoried complete including decals, great instructions and plans. NOTE: unless you specify otherwise, the kit will be shipped in the box shown. There will be an additional charge to pack and ship it in another box.
