Hudson Miniatures 1914 Regal Coupe Old Timers, 1/16

Very well detailed large 1/16 kit from 1949. Features two large plan and instructions sheets, a large number of detailed drawings of sub-assemblies, numerous actual photos of the built model, stamped metal hood, plastic wheels, grill, headlamps, spotlight, running lights and other accessories and die-cut wooden main parts. Builds up a rolling chassis just like the actual car. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits have excellent detail, this is 'super' detailed thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car during and after restoration. It was restored at the Hudson Miniatures factory and was on display there at the time! This kit has never been started. The small parts are still in the internally sealed factory bag and all other parts have been inventoried 100% complete with two large sheets of full size plans and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

The 1904 Oldsmobile was the first production car in America and was considered very dependable. To emphasize its simplicity and dependability, Oldsmobile invented the slogan 'Nothing to Watch but the Road.' Gus Edward's hit song of 1905, 'In My Merry Oldsmobile' was a tribute to the popularity of the car. It was powered by a single cylinder engine of 4.5 horsepower. The Columbia Electric was manufactured by the Electric Vehicle Co. of Hartford, Conn. It had a 1.5 HP motor with chain drive and three speeds. It cost $1350 in 1906 and tipped the scales at 1660 pounds. We think of electric cars as 'new' today but they are anything but. There were many advantages (and manufacturers) of these cars. There were no fuel lines and radiators to freeze in the winter and no overheating in the summer. They used no smelly gasoline and produced no odor when operated. The complete lack of noise made them popular with the ladies and the range was between 40 and 50 miles on a charge - not bad at all considering you could not very far anyway (on regular business or errands) in 1906. Rare kit dated August of 1950. Very well detailed for that time. Features mainly die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels and lanterns. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Has excellent, large full-size fold-out plans with numerous elevations, a great many detail drawings and extensive instructions. The kit has never been started. The small parts are either still in the internal factory sealed bag or inventoried complete and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. We think of electric cars of new; nothing could be further from the truth. From 1900 to 1915 at least 25 well-known electric car manufactures advertised vehicles which '...were clean, quite, stylish and easy to operate - the only car for a lady.' And how true this was! Early automobiles were notoriously noisy with dirty exhaust and the constant requirement to handle smelly gasoline by hand. The Baker Electric was one of the longer ranged models - when all six batteries were fully charge it could travel about 75 miles - acceptable even today for a commute. The wheelbase was 80 inches and it had a convertible top that could be lowered or raised. Fador was another maker of big 1/16 classic cars, like Hudson Miniatures. The full name was Fador Mfg. Civil Vehicle EMF 30 Racer, 1/16

Rare kit from April of 1950. Big, large scale kit measuring 8.5 inches long when assembled. Well detailed for that time. Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw-cut wooden parts and excellent plastic wheels, grill/radiator and steering wheel. Also includes metal parts, metal stock and die-cut cardstock. Includes superb, large full-size plans with many elevation drawings, numerous detail drawings and templates, extensive and detailed text instructions, painting guide and even ideas for how to upholster your car using the correct tufting pattern! The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. The EMF 30 was produced by the EMF company which stood for Everett, Metzger and Flanders - the three owners. But in the early days it was jokingly referred to as 'The Every Morning Fix It" and "Every Mechanical Failure." Each car came complete with a catalog numbering every single part, which made replacements easily obtainable. The racer engine was four cylinders cast in pairs and turned out a very respectable 30 horsepower. It had a 106 inch wheelbase and held 15 gallons. All cars were painted EMF Red and were a sight to behold. The racer had a three speed transmission on rear axle, geared to 3.25 to 1 inch high, magneto ignition, 32 x 3.5 inch tires, thermo syphon cooling (no pump) and weighed in at 1800 pounds. At Walla Walla Washington Country Fair in 1911 the EMF racer beat a Wright Biplane in two of three races. It made a five lap circuit in 5 minutes 26.5 seconds. It was the fastest time of any car or aircraft at the competition. Larger scale Pyro kit. Full hull model measures about 7 inches long when assembled. Nicely molded with billowing sails and display stand. This is one of the 'intermediate' line of Pyro ship kits, which were first called '$1.00 Models' and in 1967 were renamed '$1.25 Models.' All were roughly the same size and were a significant increase in detail from the '50 Cent Models.' (later called 74 cent models). Kits in the $1.00/$1.25 line (by 1967) included the Skipjack, Cutty Sark, Charles W. Morgan, HMS Bounty, HMS Ark Royal, USS Constellation, British Bomb Ketch, Chinese War Junk, Elsie - Gloucester Fisherman, Henri Grace A'Dieu, Dutch Staten Jacht, Gotta Le Jon and others. 50 Cent/75 Cent kits in 1967 included the Mayflower, Barbary Pirate, USS Constitution, Santa Maria, Golden Hind, Half Moon, Bon Homme Richard, Brig of War, HMS Victory, Flying Cloud, Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria, La Reale French Galley, Venetian Carrack, Roman Merchant, Spanish Galeon and others.

Features a large number of die-cut, machined and saw cut wooden parts as well as excellent plastic wheels, steering wheel, horn and lanterns. There are also metal parts, a realistic (and novel) material for making the visible radiator, metal stock and die-cut cardstock parts. Includes full-size, superb fold-out instructions with multiple elevation drawings, numerous detail drawings and templates, a photo of the completed model and extensive instructions. The kit has never been started. Inventoried with all parts present. The 1904 Cadillac was a sturdy, powerful and easy to operate car selling for only $750 - very low for that time. The Cadillac slogan was 'There is no prohibitive grade for the Cadillac.' It features a four cycle single cylinder water-cooled engine that developed 6.5 horsepower. It has two forward speed and one reverse and could travel at up to 30 mph in high gear. It had a throttle lever located on the steering post in easy reach of the fingers of the steering hand. Monogram Panzerkampfwagen Panzer IV H, 1/32, PM230-300

1969 Green Box issue. The Panzer IV mounted one 75mm gun and two MG24 machine guns. The "H" variant depicted here had extra armor plates hung loosely from the sides to pre-detonate hollow charge projectiles. The kit can be built with or without this additional armor. Features rotating turret and elevating gun, detailed moving flexible treads and bogeys with spring action, opening cupola hatch and includes extra tread links, Jerry cans and helmets with two crew figures. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Still factory sealed. From 1988. Well detailed model with 109 parts and measures 18 inches long when assembled. Features fully detailed decks, 12 hull mounted cannons, 4 cannons and carriages, 5 crew figures, pre-formed sails, full color flag sheet, display stand and nameplate, full instructions and rigging diagram. This is Sir Francis Drake's English galleon that is famous for its circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580. The ship was originally named Pelican, but Drake re-named her in mid-voyage 1577 just before entering the Strait of Magellan. The name 'Golden Hind' was a compliment to his patron of the voyage, Sir Christopher Hatton. Hatton's family coat of arms was a golden female deer ('hind').
